My boyfriend and I will be spending NYE in Goa - we have heard that this is the place to be for the new year's celebration. We wanted to book a hotel early, and most everything is already sold out, or extremely expensive.

I was able to get a reservation at a hotel in Panaji. Does anybody know if this is far away from all the action? It says that it is in Goa, but I don't want to be far removed from the celebrations.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I was in Goa last year for New Year's Eve...We stayed at Melidious Wave's Hotel in Sinquerim..We paid 2000 Rs. per night, which was very good for that time of year..No 5* that is for sure..but it was nice.

We celebrated New Year's with friend's that we know in Goa..but there were things happening everywhere.

We went to Panjim after midnight...did not see alot going on..but maybe i missed something??

I really enjoyed going to Goa at this time of the year as it is all nicely decorated with lights and manger scenes.

I would definately go again at that time of the year...

We are not big partiers...but we did not get back to our hotel til 5:00 am and noise was still happening everywhere.

Be warned that taxi fare's are outrageous on New Years Eve!!

I have spent N.Y.Eve in Goa 4 times but always in the Cidade de Goa Hotel which completely spoils you for New Years Eve anywhere else.
I think I read from your post that perhaps you want celebration but you don't say what sort and so I'm not sure if you are looking for the sort of thing I describe or not.
Panaji is the capital of Goa and central but in the event you are looking for the rave-type scene for which Goa was famous I think they used to be located on the beaches to the north of the state. I'm not sure if they are still going on and thought I had heard that a lot of them had been stopped.
As it happens the Big Chill takes place there next week and is sure to have coverage in the dailies and I think it likely there will be reference then to the scene generally.

I guess I don't really know what I am looking for. We are not ravers by any means, but we heard that Goa is the place to be for New Year's. We don't want to have to take a super expensive cab ride to get to a party. Make sense? But if we are in the capital, then there must be something going on there. We are in the beginning stages of our planing, so I'm sure we'll figure out more details as the trip nears...

just be aware that it will be chock a block with holidaymakers from within India. If you haven't booked now, you may have problems. Check
