Hi Thyra

I'm so glad to hear that your leg is doing better... have been paying close attention to your postings, and used it to convince my bf that we should NOT ride on motorcycles when in Chiang Rai next month... sounds like if something happened, it could be dangerous (truth be told, motorcycles always scare me anyhow, but it helped w my bf).
I'm finishing up my residency in Neurology and have a suggestion for the pain... Neurontin (Gabapentin is the generic and works just as well) or Lyrica should help with the pain... if that's not enough (I find that 600 mg three times a day is the best dose of Neurontin, but you should start low as it can cause dizziness), you can always add on a Lidocaine patch... I also think calcium with magnesium supplements are a good choice as well.
Here's to a speedy recovery!

Thanks for the advice JuneJuly; if he pain gets out of control, I will take you up on that... actually I generally have really bad reactions to your typical, opiat based pain killers, they gave me something at Cedars that made me feel like I was spinning backwards down a tunnel.. I had to tell them to lower the dose to 1/8 what they would normally give... Dulatin?? I can't remember but WOW.. on a really serious note, just heard about the bombs in BKK.. terrible terrible thing! I don't know how many people planning trips have been reading this post, but as a person who spent 2 weeks in Egypt immediately following the series of bombings in 2005 I don't think I would change my plans.. but everyone must live to their own comfort level; I just know that when these things happen those who suffer the most (outside of the immediate victims) are the good people of the location who rely on tourist money to survive.. these D**med bombers are really striking a blow at all of the poor people just trying to make a living and it really STINKS! Thailand is a wonderful place full of amazing people, I hate to think of the havoc caused by this type of event.

Hi Thyra

We leave for Cambodia/Thailand Jan 13, and I agree with you completely... I'm sure that by the time we reach BKK, everything will be under control. It won't affect our plans at all.
BTW- Neurontin is not actually an opiate- pain med (like morphine, dilaudid, etc)... it's actually a seizure medication at high doses, but at low dose, helps stabilize the way nerves work/ specific for nerve pain. For someone like you, 100 mg three times a day would likely be good, with likely no side effects.
Thanks again for your great trip report!

Who gives a crap about Tong. The guy almost lost his leg for goodness sake. Sheesh.

I'm glad you're OK. What were you doing when you almost killed yourselves?

I just had my appointment at Bumrungrad today. I just finished posting my experience under my, "Guenmai in Bangkok" trip report. I also reported on the bombings under that thread. Happy Travels!

Thyra, I think you stayed at my B&B in North Qld a few years ago - Thyra was screen name then. The only US guest who ever went to Gundagai!

Hardly ever look on Asian forum but your post title was irresistible, what a hideous experience for you! Do hope you make a full recovery, you've certainly the spirit - good on you, girl, and all the best.

Hey There Pat, yes indeed, it is the very same person! To this day one of THE best B & B experiences on ANY continent! Yep, I am doing ok... but heaven forbid I bump my shin on anything.. wowser! Not enough tissue to sheild the healing nerves (I banged my shin on a dresser this morning and I would be surprised if you didn't hear my scream all the way in Queensland!) Thanks for all of the support! Happy New Year!
