Comments in BKK itinerary appreciated
Hi
I´ve read many wonderful tips and ideas on touring BKK in this forum, so I thought I would ask for comments on my itinerary.
I will only be in BKK for 4 and a half days, and I cannot change the length of the stay. We are a group of 6. Two couples in our early 30`s and one in their early 50`s.
Some of us have never been to BKK, and don´t think we will be back. (Hopefully I´m wrong on that one
.
What do you think?
Day 1 (Only 4 of us)
Arrive at Hotel at 3:00am
Sleep and rest to recover from jet lag. Probably leave the hotel at around 2 or 3 pm. Since our party is not complete we thought about going shopping to MBK. And the other couple will be joining us for dinner ( they are coming from China, so no jet lag problems, we think), we want a Thai dinner, probably going to Harmonique.
Day 2
Grand Palace, Wat Po, Wat Arun
Chinatown
Golden Buda
Tea at The Peninsula
anything else you could recommend
We are thinking about doing this with the spanish speaking guide, since three in our group do not speak English at all.
Day 3
(with the Spanish guide recommended by Tong)
Floating Market
Kanchanaburi: Tiger Temple, Bridge on the River Kwai,
We`ve heard about feeding the monkeys, elephant trek, krasea cave, etc.
Day 4
Ayutthaya
Day 5
Marble Temple
Jim Thompson House
(any other recommendations appreciated)
until 4:00 pm when we need to go to the airport.
I know we don´t have much in BKK, but we wanted to visit Ayutthaya, and even though we haven´t heard good comments about de floating market, we are not really going to shop, we just want to experience it, and take pictures. (Two people in the group live for showing of photographs from colorful places in cities they´ve visited)
For meals we are thinking about going to Rang Mahal, Ban Klang Nam and Bed SuperClub.
Sorry about the long post, I´m just so excited about the trip, that I really wanted comments on it. What would you add?, What would you eliminate?
I will be waiting for your suggestions.
Thank you very much

When you do the Marble Temple, you might want to go to Viraminek Palace. They're close.
I would not do both the Ayutthaya trip and the floating market trip. I would pick one and spend the rest of the time in BKK.
The Prasart Museum is very special. You have to make advance reservations by calling the museum (check a recent post for the phone number) and then arrange for a driver out there and back. It takes up a morning or an afternoon.

You have so little time in Bangkok, I'd also recommend that you choose one day trip.
You've packed a lot into Day 2. I'm not sure you can do it all. Perhaps move the Golden Buddha (and some time in Chinatown) to Day 5.
The Prasart is lovely. I don't know whether they have a Spanish-speaking guide... you'll have to ask.

I completely agree that day 2 is a bit overwhelming. Keep in mind that it is hot and you will probably move at a slower pace.
I also agree that you should choose just one day trip and spend an extra day in Bangkok.
Looks like you have done some thorough research!
Good luck and have fun!
Cheers!

Skip floating market! You cannot take any photos without loads of other tourists in the frame. It is a totally fake thing set up to sell tourists junky trinkets. It is also at least 1.5 hours to get there. Do some of the other more real things people have mentioned.

I was in Thailand in Nov.2005 and am very glad that I did NOT skip the floating market. We did not buy anything there but took a lot of pictures. it IS really very exotic place. You need to be there early morning before the tourist groups arrive. Spend a couple of hours at the market. You will love it. It is definitely a star attraction in the BKK area.

Thank you very much for all your suggestions.
I think I`m going to follow your advice and skip Ayutthaya, and instead go to the Prasart Museum, Golden Buddha and Chinatown during day 4.
You`re right we want to do a lot, but not be too tired that we cannot enjoy ourselves.
Thanks

G-I would see Wat Tramit (Golden Buddha) and Chinatown in the morning and the Prasart in the afternoon. There's much more going on in C-town in the morning. Make sure that in addition to Sampeng Lane that you walk up the perpindicular market street/alley as well. The name begins with an "I", thinks the panda.
