Edogin, Matsukan, Ukai Toriyama, Sushizanmai Part 3
Pardon for doing it this way. I had a hard time posting this report.
Sushizanmai
In tsukiji fish market, excellent sushi. I must have had at least 24 pieces, and with the exception of iwashi(sardine), most of my selections were on the high end, ie. Chu toro, anago, toro, etc. the restaurant is located just inside the fish market, and tsukiji is easily accessible via the hibiya line, getting off at the tsukiji stop. From the exit, its just a 10-15 walk to the fish market. The interior of this sushi bar is new, with lots of wood. They have about seven sushi chefs behind the bar. I paid 4200Y for my 24 pieces of sushi. I think this is a great value for the quantity and quality of sushi. I particularly rec. the aburi toro. The toro is lightly singed, and the fatty oil drips over the rice…excellent. This is my favorite sushi bar. I went there twice on this trip, and twice this past may.

actually, i could have had a couple more. it was great. you are going in jan. right? go to sushizanmai, you will not regret it. just fabulous. go around 8-9am, and when you are done, walk around the market, then walk to the ginza, or follow florence's route to asakusa.
two dozen sushi would be a piece of cake for you.
ken.

Kuranosuke, would you know the hours for Sushizanmai? Is it open for lunch or dinner as well as for breakfast? It sounds great. I have been to Edogin which I usually recommend to people and would like to try Sushizanmai, although not so early in the morning. Sushi and beer in the a.m. is a bit too much for me. Thanks.

Thanks kuranosuke. I'm definitely going to this place. My son (who is 14 but 6 ft 3 inches and size 15 shoes) can eat alot of sushi, but this place sounds like it is worth the yen. I have not seen Florence's recommendation on getting to Asakausa from there, but will look for that, as we will be heading to Kannon Temple for a festival later that morning...

emd; you are welcome. you and your son will love it, worth every yen.
if you can't find florences' post, just click on my name, and you will find it. it was about a year ago. its a good trip by water bus to asakusa, and it might be the way to go, as i think there will be alot of people and cars on the road during the festival. don't forget to post your report after your trip. enjoy.

Oh, ok, if it's by the water cruise on the Sumida River then I know about that, going from Hinode pier to Asakusa or vice versa. I just printed out all the info on that boat ride today and that is on the agenda and sounds really nice (http://www.suijobus.co.jp/english/cr...e/su_line.html). It is all coming together now, after so many months of being ovewhelmed w/planning options and info. Thanks very much for the dining reviews.
