I'm happy I could provide info to help. I get a lot of great info from the forums and am glad to repay the favor.

rhkkmk- Not sure if you're sorted on Bangkok hotel yet...I stayed at the Sukhothai in BKK last year and loved it. At the time I got some amazing internet rate through either Expedia or Travelocity.

John- In the Danu cluster, I requested an upstairs unit and this was a good decision. More privacy, and more sunlight. If you stay, please tell Bayu (front desk) that Christine Peterson says hello. He will remember me as the one who left an XL Bali duffle bag with him.

Pandas never get lost. They have built in GPS systems. As opposed to Bob who went from LAX to West LA via Anaheim two weeks ago. Unbelievably enough he was misusing a GPS when he did it. I think in Bali, we'll just give him a leash.

Chris thanks and will do that . This trip was to be on a really tight budget and focus on some tailoring at Royal Tailors on the outskirts of Kuta but in the end I'd rather be happy at KJ than spending $50 a night and being sour. Plus a second try will allow me to see if I was being harsh last time .Plus our Australian dollar has risen against the greenback .Last June we were flying on the exchange rate which made a lot of shopping / costs highway robbery .

And rhkkmk thanks .We got none of that last year and there were 3 of us in a Loji villa !

We're going to Ubud for 9 nights (4 of us - incl a 6 and 9 yr old). Trying to decide between Alam Indah/Jiwa and Kajane. Kajane is quite a bit more expensive, but I like the idea of being in town and am leaning that way. Is Kajane air conditioned?

We've been offered 2-bedrooms in Danu or Loji. Other than price, are there any advantages/disadvantages to either? Danu looks to be much closer to the entrance which sounds like a plus - but what about privacy?

the two bedroom units are one on top of each other i believe...

would you want a small child so close to an open swimming pool?

the alam properties are fantastic, but not all have a/c...

I've sent them a note to clarify some things - will post their answers in case anyone else is interested.

We're not worried about the pool - my 6 yr old swims better than I do. Plus we're not planning on hanging out there too much as we'll be with Putu or Dean every day.

My only worry about the Alam properties is the convenience. I know they have a shuttle, but that just sounds like a recipe for frustration for me.

The shuttle is not a large inconvenience. A quick jaunt into town or wherever. You can also walk through the Monkey Forest to get into town.

Yes, all of Kajane has a/c.

You're correct that Danu is in the very front of the property, so nearly no walking and no steps to get there. The steps start after the reception area/lobby.

I only saw the Danu cluster (4 individual rooms in 2 buildings with 1 room above another), and there was plenty of privacy on the 2nd level unless you're on the balcony. On the first level, there is a leafy hedge blocking the view to the room but you can still see in somewhat. I'm not clear on if there's another Danu villa that has multiple bedrooms like Logi.

For those interested, here are some answers I received from Kajane:

1) All units have a/c as Chris mentioned.

2) I asked about the differences between Loji and Danu. Here is what they said:

Loji 2 Bedroom :
- Located at the across to the river
- Consist of 2 bedrooms and living room in each room
- With large private garden and rice paddies view
` - Larger pool 10x5 M2 with salt water pool
- indoor bathroom

DANU 2 Bedroom :
-Located at the upper ground (assume this means the front)
-Consist of 2 bedrooms and 1 living room
-Have their own private pool (6x9 m2)

3) I was still puzzled about whether the Danu 2-bedroom was separate from the upstairs/downstairs units rhkkmk mentioned so I sent a followup. Here was their answer - "Kindly to inform you that actually Danu Mansion and Danu 2 bedroom have the same location which consist of 4 SEPARATED rooms on 2 two storey building. But if we have guest will book Danu 2 bedroom we will set up 2 bedroom, 1 living room and will lock other 1 room so you don't need to share with other guest."

I take this to mean we would not end up with someone below us in this arrangement.

4) The airport transfer service is only include pick up service at the airport in this package, for drop service it will be with an extra charge at USD 30 net/way/car.

For those who have stayed at Kajane, any thoughts on Danu vs. Loji?

We're being quoted $276/night for Danu and $305/night for Loji, including taxes and such (plus all the other bonuses you read about). This is quite a bit more than the Alam properties so I'm thinking about mixing up the time between Alam Indah (Gardenia Suite) and Kajane to balance out the costs. Thoughts?

our group, sans one, feels there is an advantage to KM in that staying in the middle of town would be a real advantage....i look forward to this, BUT i loved the location of the alam property and i will miss it....i loved everything about alam shanti in fact....
for us the cost works out about the same as we would pay $150 each for alam shanti and KM is just double that price, so the same...

i think a mix would be perfect....i would do in town first then alam....

Thanks for your thoughts Bob. Is Komeneka a place for kids? I had the impression it's not - but it's actually cheaper than Kajane which has me thinking (I'm ocd about this stuff)...

I would definitely go with Loji for such a small price difference. You'll get a lot more living area, and there's still lots of privacy between upstairs and downstairs. Loji Gaga has the better layout of the two Logi villas. One is wide (Gaga) and the other is long and skinny.

I have read every post on this thread and cannot find the web site for Kajane Mua. If somebody could please post it, I would be very grateful. I would love to have more information such as a map, detailed rate info and possibly some pictures. Would like to deal with them directly rather than through a hotel booking agency. Thanks in advance.

Orlando, just input Kajane Mua into google, and the first hit is the hotel's website.
