Dawg, Dog, etc. River Trip Info Please

Is there an on-board (semi-luxury) accommodations river boat trip from BKK north? If so, I would appreciate some info ~~ company, contact, etc.

Thanks.

Hi Sandra - slim [and untried] pickin's I'm afraid:

http://www.cruiseasia.net/
[which looks pretty naff to me: expect package tours of confused Australians - hmmm, maybe I should go...]

and, of course, variations on the Ayutthaya route. You could get a two nighter out of this.

that's it, as far as I know.

frankly, if the rivers are calling you, I'd catch a flight to Saigon and grab a 7 day cruise up the Mekong, ending in Siem Reap. Trust me - you'd enjoy, ver-r-r-ry much.

My fave company for that:

I'll bet Maeng would enjoy an overnight boat trip! I've often thought of doing the day trip to Ayuthaya, but have yet to do it.
Dawg, your 7-day cruise on the Mekong sounds great too!

Dog lives!

I'm moving to Austin next week and am losing my mind, so it's good to know that Dogster is amongst us.

Indeed I do exist, indiana, I have been being creative. I can't be creative and nice at the same time.

Some would say I can't be nice - ever.

Dogster: Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! I KNEW you would have the info I needed.

DH and I will be in LOS Sept and Oct. Spreading our wings this trip ~~ start and end with about 4 days at each end (AS, where else), then CM and Luang Prabang for a visa run, and then to Krabi and Phuket. Whew! I am already tired!!!!! We are hoping (planning) to take the sleeper train overnight from BKK - CM. Haven't done it, and it will take me back 50+ years to the train trips in the US.

If you are in LOS the middle of September or the end of October, let us know where you'll be, and maybe it will be a meeting at HD in pure Simpson style.

"bigtexasdiamond" - no, no, no. Never, nada, nyet. I'm a corn pone from the midwest and always will be, no matter where I live.

We're renting a three-bedroom apartment with granite counter tops and two swimming pools - "the penthouse," as one of my friends calls it. Scheming to take our three cats on the plane . . . Mr. Pearl worries that we'll be driven away at the airport.

Marija, are you still in The City with Big Shoulders? I hope so -- one of my favorite towns.

So, Dogster, do you have a "nom de plume" on Fodor's? If so, don't worry. I won't ask what it is. I'll just sleuth while trying to keep my sanity -- Fodor's can be -- note "can be" -- good for that.

Thinking lots about India and scheming for ways to get there sometime in the near future. (By mentioning India, I keep this thread on the Asia theme.)
