D2 Hotel Review
Just spent a night at the new D2 hotel in Chiang Mai and thought I share my experiences with you guys.
First the hotel is situated right next to the night bazaar but once you're in the hotel it's quite calm and peaceful. The D2 used to be the old Chiang Inn hotel and the Dusit group did a very good job of converting this property into something similar to a W hotel or the Metropolitan in Bangkok.
The rooms are on the small side and if you stay in a deluxe you have a choice of a room with a bath tub or a shower. The bathrooms are very small so I would recommend a room with a shower instead of a bath(not a full size bath tub either!). We stayed in a Studio suite which was the equivalent to 2 deluxe room but with a huge bathroom and very nice amenities.
Club floor is on the 7th floor and it offers continental breakfast as well as softdrinks and coffee(and tea) the whole day. Happy hours is from 5 to 7 pm.
Swimming pool, not very big, is on the 2nd floor and it's enclose by walls and buildings. The spa, did not use, was on the 3rd floor but I think you will get a better deal from a non hotel spa like the Oasis or The Legend spas.
In our suite we had a small 19" LCD tv in the bed room and a 42" LCD in the adjoining sitting room. Bed was comfortable with nice sheets and the A/C was super cold!
We also spent a night at the Yaang Come(my wife prefer this property) but that property has been reviewed here before(great review and pictures by Kimjapan). If you want a Thai atmosphere I would stay at the Yaang Come but if you want a fashionable chic type of a hotel I would recommend the D2.

This hotel has also gotten some good reviews on trip advisor. I checked out the lobby etc when I was there but didn't see any of the rooms. Looks like a good choice for those who want a large hotel. It looked too "hip" and impersonal for me. But then I looked at it at a time that I was staying at Baan Orapin and absolutely loving the experience of a small intimate place with wonderful owners.

Kathie,
I got a very good rate of 6,700 baht net(inc tax and service) with club room privileges as well as full breakfast at the coffee shop. I sort of know the family that own the Dusit group so I don't think the rate I've mentioned will be realistic for others.
If you want to stay at the D2 I highly recommend the Studio Suite since it's much nicer than the deluxe and the bathroom is gorgeous(full baht, walk in showers etc.).

Kathie,
We stayed in a Deluxe room but after seeing all their other rooms we will in the future stay in a Superior room. The only difference between a Deluxe and a Superior is that in the Deluxe they have a bath tub as well as a walk in shower where as the Superior will only have a shower.
A brief description of all the rooms we looked at:
Superior: Nice size room similar to the deluxe in term of amenities.
Deluxe: Same as Superior but with an addition of a bath tub in the bathroom.
Family room: On the second floor of the closes building to the reception area. Basically a bedroom (King size bed) with a bedroom / sitting room(twin bed) combination type of room. Take note that there is only one bathroom for this type of unit - something we didn't like.
Junior Suite: On the third floor of a building that is the furthest from the reception area. Nice bed room with some sort of a thatched ceiling. Bathroom has twin sink and a Jacuzzi bathtub. Note that there are no elevators so you must walk 3 flight of stairs to get to the room.
Something that we really like about this hotel is that there is free broadband internet connection in the room and wifi by the reception area. This is quite rare for Thailand!
