Cruising between Japan, Korea and China

My sister and her husband are contemplating a cruise in the seas bordered by Japan, China and Korea, and asked me for advice. Even though I have travelled to Japan quite a bit, cruise liner travelling is out of my depth (ha ha ha). So I am asking my Fodorite colleagues as to opinions and experiences to cruising in the East China Sea. What do you see, and which ports do you travel to? Is there a peak season? What is the quality of the ships?

Thanks for any replies.

Try posting on the cruise board - use the "Change Forum" option. I hear cruisecritic.com is a good place too, but I wouldn't get on a cruise ship in Asia if you paid me - far too little time in port and far too much to see inland.

The peak time for cruising in Asia is from October to April and there are three kinds of cruise vessel. Catering for the mass market are the larger liners such as those of Royal Caribbean, Princess and Holland America. Midsize ships are operated by Oceania, Crystal and Celebrity cruise lines. Riding the crest of the wave in the small, luxury cruise ship category are Silversea, Seabourn and Regent Seven Seas. The smaller ships base themselves in the area for the season.

Xpost on Fodors Cruise boards have done Princess it was good

Biggest drawback was limited times in port for me

with so much to see.

Thanks for the replies and the hints. I asked first on the Asia forum because that's the one I most frequent.
