Correction: Cost of Driver between Udiapur and Jodhpur

Does anyone know what a fair price would be for a driver between Udiapur and Jodhpur, stopping at Kumbhalgarh fort and Ranakpur enroute. I've received a quote that seems to be a bit high. Thanks!

Well, we had a driver for US $24 for a day but we returned to Udaipur. Do factor in that the driver will probably have to return to his home town after dropping you off. We arranged the driver through our home-stay, which is probably why it was so cheap.

We were quoted $155 USD, which seems a bit high. Craig - did you just go to the Fort, temple and return? Anyone else have any info?

I went through my records to check ours, but we went from Udaipur and like Craig also did the Jain temple and Ranakpur and spent the night in Jodphur. We then had him for three more days and nights and the total was around $250 for the whole thing. So, four days/nights $250. I would get another quote.

We used two companies in India. Ramesh Meena and also Rajasthan four wheel drive

$25 sounds more normal, but add on extra for added fuel costs and size of car, although i think craig had an suv..

No, we just had a regular car that day - no bags to haul...

I will also be driving from Udiapur, first stopping at Jodhpur, then traveling onto Jaisalsmer for few days & then driving back to Jodphur for a flight. We were quoted $500 which seems like too much!! Does anyone have any trusted contacts I can get a quote from? I am not yet in India and am trying to organize it beforehand. Thanks!

Ramese Meena was who we used, however we took the train to and from Jaisalmer /Jodphur and it worked well. I was told the sceanery between the two was not that great.

Go to this site and calculate it yourself:

http://savaari.com/user/step1.php

or
http://savaari.com/user/car-packages...dia.php?type=3

That'll give you a base line for a basic transfer or package.

And everybody has to remember that your car has to return to the starting point, whether it has you in it or not.

I used this service: Welcome Rajasthan <[email protected]>

It was about $125 for the 10 hour drive from Agra to Pushkar. They are based out of Jaipur, so that included the driver's trip from Jaipur to Agra, to Pushkar, and then back to Jaipur. Udapiur to Jodhpur is a shorter distance, and if you are getting someone based in Udaipur, it should be considerably less.

dogster!!! Why are you recommending savaari.com??? You've obviously forgotten my disastrous experience with them!

Anyone thinking of using savaari.com should click on my name for my report on them, or for my South Asian TR. I'd link it here but the iPad is a pain...
