Cheapest way to book domestic flight tickets in India

I was just browsing domestic Indian flights fares on the Web, most of the airlines/sites have huge taxes + fees, almost equivalent or more than the airfare. I could use some tips here to buy the tickets with out incurring too much fees.

If we have some one we can go to airport and buy the tickets for us, would it be beneficial economically?

the taxes and surcharges have plagued the Indian airlines for long now, it has nothing to do with where you are booking from. These charges are due to the high sales tax, As far as taxes are concerned, Rs 250 per ticket is charged as PSF ( Passenger Service Fees). Beyond this, there is no amount charged by the government against a ticket. An airliner charges Rs 2400 to Rs 2800 as fuel surcharge. This amount does not go to the government. The airlines introduced this charge to compensate for the high rate of sales tax (40%) on aviation fuel. As the fuel prices began to rise rapdly in the first half of 2008, the airlines also began to hike the fule surcharge. So go ahead and book online and treat it as the cost of the flight.

Have you tried www.ixigo.com to get a decent comparison on prices? I found it very valuable in planning my trip to India.

If you are planning a trip and using an agent (highly recommended), why not ask them to price your flights within India. You have nothing to lose.

Go to makemytrip.com or cleartrip.com to get comparative prices. You don't need an agent you can directly book it online and take the printout to the airport.

Incase of taxes and surcharges they will always be there but sometimes you can get tickets with a base price of Rs 0 to Rs 500 which makes the tickets really cheap.

i would highly recommend using Cleartrip.com Yatra.com & Travelguru.com

all at the same time... they offer the best fares and one of them is usually cheaper than the other.

Cleartrip is my fav interface...
