cheap eats singapore

looking for suggestions for reasonable to cheap eats in singapore....need no additional info on food stalls around town, but rather looking for "local" offerings, stand alone restaurants offering something unique, original and good---all at a reasonable price...

thanks

There's good Indian briyani, murtabak etc at Zam Zam and Victory at North Bridge Road near Sultan Mosque. It's in the vincity of Arab Street. There's some good nasi padang eating places around there as well.

The curry fish head places at Race Course Road.

There's several Hainanese eating places serving chicken rice, pork chop etc around Seah Street area near Raffles Hotel.

Several Peranakan restaurants at Katong (near Katong mall) eg True Blue and Kim Choos.

I strongly suggest trying the Peranakan.

bob, kmloke provided a good suggestion of peranakan food in guens stomping grounds, katong.

while there, go to the marine parade mall, shop/walk around for a few hours, then go back to katong for a bowl of singapore laksa.

hang around for a few more hours, then to have a beer and dance with karen at chevy's. live band plays a great variety of music, even some from your era. lol.

when are you going to be there?

It is a while since I have been but it used to be that Banana Leaf Apollo in Little India was good and reasonable.I had a very memorable lunch there eating various vegetarian and fish curries, including one made of a huge red emperor fish head that was fabulous , all served on and eaten off a banana leaf .Others will correct me if that has changed .

Don't laugh! Around a hundred McDonalds in Singapore! Some of them have wifi now. Lots of KFC's too! This is cheap eats too!

Just about anywhere in Asia I can usually find fried rice available at a reasonable price.

Try some food courts too!

I always like hotels that have "all you can eat" breakfast buffets!

Good luck.

Not Asian but I love Cedele's in Wheelock Place for fancy sandwiches and well prepared not too expensive light meals.
