Cathay Pacific

We saw an offer from Cathay Pacific that interested us. How is this as an airline? How does it compare to US domestic carriers? Thai Air? Thanks.

Cathay is my favorite airline, hands down. I used to have to do a lot of flying between the US and Asia and always flew Cathay, if at all possible. They put their US competition to shame when it comes to customer service. You could say it is in the same class as Thai or Singapore Air.

For their new business and first class suites they are much more advance than Thai. From my own experiences the standard of service is not very consistent. Can be very good to mediocre(in 1st and business class). If you're flying to Thailand then you'll have to stop by Hong Kong.

I've flown Cathay several times...They are ok...way better than North American Airlines, that is for sure!! Only sat in economy class, so cannot comment on business class.

I find that they don't have much leg room, and i am quite short...But the service is usually very good and food is good for airplane food..

My personal favorite airline so far in my travels has been Emirates....

They have excellent club louges on the biz class, though I don't recall their seat reclined totally flat.
For coach class, they're clearly ahead of US-based carriers. Decent food (esp Chinese), clean/modern aircraft, good entertainment, though seat pitch is probably not the most generous.
The best bit is the check-in facility at Airport Express stations either in Kowloon or in HK.

Just curious? Where did you see this offer and how long ago? We are very interested in doing this as we are going to Bali in January.

Cathay is an excellent airline -- MUCH better than any of the american carriers. I would say it is comprable to Thai.

Just bought our tickets. Thanks. The deal is from JFK or LAX to BKK or Bali. You must purchase by 5/31/07 for travel departing between 9/1/07-11/30/07. Two tickets JFK-BKK for about $1750.
