Yangshuo Mountain Retreat

Am thinking about spending 4 nights there in late October, but haven't found much mention of the place here. I'm wondering particularly about the suitability of their "single double bed" side room with balcony and mountain view, for 2 people. That's all they seem to have available for several of the nights we'll be there. Also, wondering if the accomodations and setting are really worth the extra drive (is it 30 or 45 minutes?) out of Yangshuo proper.

Thanks.

Have now been able to arrange a "deluxe" family room with balcony over the Li River. Still wondering if it's worth the drive -- and how long the drive really is -- out of Yangshuo. Would really appreciate any experience someone might have. Thanks.

Topping, to give this another try. Since we're tentatively planning 4 nights here, I'd like to have some Fodorite sense of the place. TripAdvisor gives it glowing reports, but I haven't found the TA reviews generally as reliable - and someone claimed that the Mountain Retreat people gave free internet time to guests if they wrote favorable reviews on TA! Thanks if you have any info on this place.

Re: Yangshuo Mountain Retreat, you can't go wrong with a river view room here, no matter what the bed arrangements. Just make sure you book well in advance, as we had to wait 2 days to get the room we wanted. There is a new sister hotel, the Moon Hill Village Inn (http://www.yangshuoguesthouse.com) that we biked to. No river views but a beautiful location. Both places are about a 10 minute drive into Yangshuo town, which frankly, isn't the best place to be anymore.
Cheers!

If you want to stay in Yangshuo Mountain Retreat please make sure to book the deluxe river view room, not Mountain view room.

Belated update: We did go to the Retreat last October, and had a great time. We paid extra and got a "deluxe river view room." While it was very basic, and the bathroom / shower arrangement is unusual, we'd recommend it highly on several grounds. The staff are very nice, and the location is wonderful -- right on the Li river in a relatively untouched area, though you can watch tourists go by, floating down the Li all day -- which, by the way, we'd also recommend doing. We had a very nice terrace. The hotel is only about 10 minutes from Yangshuo, proper, which turns out to be a good thing. Yangshuo is a tourist town, with a small, very crowded "traditional" street and a lot of other Westerners. The best thing about Yangshuo was the cooking lessons we took, which was a nice relaxing way to spend a half day. The area around the Retreat, though, has a lot of nice trails that take you by less spoiled areas.
