Thai air is not competitive on price. You get star alliance miles at incredible costs versus flying AirAsia or other discounters.
The cost of flying this route on Air Asia is about $91 round trip when it's not on sale, and you can book your tickets from the u.s. (you have to register on air asia's site to do so)
they also fly to phuket
bangkok air also flies both these routes and is also bookable online

I am having a hard time scheduling my flights on asia air, tiger, jet star, because there are only one or two flights a day listed usually and I'm not able to make the connections I want. Are there more flights available than are listed on their websites that I can find if I wait until I get there? thanks.

the business about "5% commissionable" refers to the commission a travel agent gets to book that, i believe...
ask eddie about it
i just booked india through him and there was not commission....i just paid last week

NurseSally, you are naming all budget airlines. They do not have as many flights, they have highly restrictive baggage limits, and they have a no refund policy. If you miss a flight, tough. Budget airlines are fine if you have time to waste, but if you have a tightly scheduled trip, I wouldn't chance them.
