Fake vs real cashmere

I'm traveling to China at the end of October and have read Cashmere and silk are good buys---However, there are a lot of fakes around. How do I tell the real thing?

We just came back from China last week. We went to several fake markets in Shanghai & Beijing and saw several "100% cashmere" signs. In some stores it was obvious there displays were fake cashmere (felt like fine/soft cotton) and in other stores it was more difficult to tell. I had planned on getting a cashmere coat tailored while I was there, but I did not trust the quality of the product at all. In addition, the tailoring was very sloppy which made my decision much easier. Maybe we went to the wrong markets, but I did not feel comfortable spending on something that may or may not be the real thing.

By touch. I only wear cashmere sweaters. Go to a department store before you leave home and start touching. Happy Travels!
