Bumrungrad Hospital BKK
One of the best things Thailand has to offer is Bumrungrad Hospital on Sukumvit soi 3. It is the most luxurious hospital in the world, and it has the most international patients of any hospital in the world. It is the equivalent of the Oriental or Penn as far as hospitals go.
60 Minutes recently did a very positive story on the place. It has all of the latest technology, and over 500 internationally accredited doctors. Prices average 1/8 the cost of an American hospital. Cosmetic procedures are a specialty, and they have partnered with Thai Airways for medical vacations. You can even pay with Thai miles. And American insurance companies are super happy to pay for operations there.
I went in the other day for back pain. (after 18 hours in a coach seat.) I saw an orthopedic specialist who spoke perfect English. I was X-Rayed and he spent all the time needed to explain my problem. He also told me the surgical options I may need in the future. He gave me prescriptions and showed me how to sleep & excercise to ease the pain. I paid cash for the bill which was 2,300 Thai Baht (just under $60 US.) that included the visit, the X-Rays, and the drugs. Now I feel great.
Like most other things in Thailand, you get better & friendlier service in nicer surroundings at a fraction of the price back home. I use Bumrungrad for routine checkups and I never feel like I'm in a hospital.
If you spend time in Thailand, I recommend visiting, and even registering at Bumrungrad. It has exceeded the expectations of everyone who I have sent there.

There have been a number of posts here about Bumrungrad. We tested out the medical center by having routine dental work done (cleaning and exam). They were fast, efficient, and very inexpensive - I paid 1100 baht (vs. $150 in Seattle). They use the same sterilization and infection control procedures mandated by JCAHO in the US.

Jan. 2006 Conde Nast Travel magazine has a good article on Bangkok's Bumrungrad Hospital(p.72)-how it started, etc. List it a cut above any other foreign hospital in the world. You might find the whole article "Operation Vacation" very interesting that compares other countries, prices, etc.,but do not come up to the standards of Bumrungrad. Just thought someone might find this info useful.

I am looking to see if any Americans have had any plastic surgery At Bumrungrad, involving Tummy Tucks and lipo...TV specials talk about the luxurious 5 star accomodations and such, however, I would like to hear from women who have had these types of surgeries, other than rhynoplastys (Nose jobs). Traveling after stomachue surgery cannot be comfortable, so I would like some first hand experiences to plan my trip...Anyone out there like to share your story????? Looking forwarding to hearing from you
