Bophut Village, Koh Sumui
Can anyone recommend a nice hotel in Bophut, would ideally love to stay in a cottage or bungalow on the beach. I had intended to stay at the Baan Bophut hotel but after reading recent reviews I have changed my mind. We only have 3 nights as spending the other 4 elsewhere.
So any good suggestions please and not something that breaks the wallet.

You may remember that I recommended this hotel and the reviews look good to me. Check again at the most recent. www.sawadee.com/samui/baanbophut/reviews/ The guest comments on their website are also very reassuring.
During my last stay, early one morning the pool water appeared to be black. They cleared it after an hour with a sequestering chemical and I was told that the appearance was a reaction from the well water in Bophut, which has (invisible & harmless) traces of iron, with chlorine when it's first added. The lady reviewer must have risen very early (as I did)to witness the pool like this and complain about the beach, which I know is cleaned daily. Low tides, exposing the largely broken coral reef are a fact of life during the wet season in Samui and does not affect Bophut as much as many other of Samui's beaches. The BB beach is perfectly swimmable during mid and high tides, even in the wet season. Its just at this time of the year the low tide extends further than usual. I've actually enjoyed this part of the day, as it brings the village families out to forage for crabs and squid left trapped by the receding tides and in the evening, there is almost a party atmosphere as the local familes use Baan Bophut's beach to chat and take in the sunset.
I would have thought that the low tides are less of an issue by now. Why not call the hotel and ask, also about the reviews that seem to have put you off?
I don't know how the reviewer could have made negative remarks about the staff, when the nine others appear to have nothing but praise.
Enjoy your holiday.

I think you must be referring to one individual comment on this forum, meanwhile lastest reviews on tripadvisor are singing the praises of this place, at the same time the Sals Samui is getting 'roasted' about claims of a cockroach problem.
You need to take reviews as what they really are and that is 'personal opinions'.
If you were looking at reviews on Tripadvisor you might rethink.

Hey Patsie
A good idea in these cases is to just book a couple of days and see for yourself.
Having stayed twice at Baan Bophut myself I am sure you will see its a great place and stay longer. Oh - and if you ever find a hotel with no negative reviews, let me know, I'd love to stay there!
Cheers, M

Sometimes too much knowledge is dangerous!! Once booked I shouldn't look at anymore reviews - yeah OK..... All the other hotels on this trip are booked and I have read the negative reviews - like the cockroaches at the Sala Sumui but as paid for took the review with a pinch of salt. I may have acted with haste about the BB but the swimming pool and unfriendly staff did put me off.
I do realise though what someone thinks is fab another may think poor........
Thanks for replying to my post.
