BKK Greeting Service

Thought some of you might be interested in a new service from Image Limo. They provide the usual airport and inter-city transfer services, but now they offer a 'greeting' service. For 2,000 Baht (3,000 for two) they will meet you at the plane and escort you through immigration and customs.

they would have to clear security to do that and that's ok?

Interesting.

I just noticed last night that the Sheraton Grande offers this as well, starting at 2200 baht. All I could think is, "That's almost 10x the cost of a taxi" and "Really? Why does anyone need to be escorted through immigration and customs?"

I guess people are willing to pay for all sorts of perceived luxuries.

Isn't there a similar service offered by Thai Airlines for its 1st and Business passengers?

This service has been running, one way or another, for ages. It kinda made sense at horrible Don Muang at times of crisis but, for the life of me, I can't see why you'd need it here.

For the terminally nervous, the overly rich, the elderly, incontinent, movement impaired, confused and just plain dumb punters, I guess.

Remember also, there are still people out there who think that going to BKK is like going to Tropical Hell, murderous, strike ridden, lascivious, lecherous, terrifying Bangkok. They fear they'll be struck down by a hail of ping-pong balls on arrival, then attacked, stripped and beaten before they make it past customs. They need a man with a sign.

Obviously there's sufficient numbers of them to sustain a market.

I noticed some greeters when I last landed at BKK. I think Thai has this service for First Class - they don't for Biz.

If I was flying my 85 year old mother to Bangkok, I'd use such a service. But for most people, really not needed.

i had a friend arrange this for me last year...it was great and you clear immigration through the diplomatic gate....

it is totally unnecessary however...

if they came with a cart to pick you up now that would be another issue, as the walk is quite a ways

A hooker could come to "greet you" and it would be cheaper.

Lori is a marketing genius. Every single western male coming to BKK would sign up for 3000B. The walk would be ever so slow because of those perilous heels.

But then there's the surprise ending where you discover that 'she' is really a 'he'. Now THAT is Thailand.

Ptooey. Seen it. [I was about to say 'been there, done it' but that's not strictly true.] lol. Not my thang.

offwego makes such a pertinant point [as always]- Indeed, I know a few places in BKK where 2,500 baht would get you a veritable harem - if that's YOUR thang.

So, the logical extension is to be a lady-boy hooker with a car. Everybody could dress in pink at the airport. I'm just trying to think up an advertising slogan...

BIG SURPRISE Limo Service

The only airport transfer service with real Bang for your Baht!

When we go to Manila each year we get the Greeting Service- man meets us before Immigration and Customs and directs us around the lines - we are whisked thru. He then gets us a baggage cart. Cost - ZERO.
