Best 1-day trips outside Tokyo?

I must be getting old. At the end of May I will be going to Tokyo, and then on to Thailand. I had it in my head that I would have two full days/nights in Tokyo, and 2 half days. After lookingat the calendar last night it appears that I will actually be in Tokyo 3 full days and 2 half! Stoopid me! So can anyone suggest the absolute best one day excursion outside of Tokyo, for the entire day only (I have already booked 4 nights at the Park Hotel Tokyo). Much thanks if you can help!

Sincerely,

kurt

I would choose Kamakura....it is easy to get there and it takes a day to really cover everything....

I'd go to Hakone to go to an onsen and to enjoy the natural beauty and to visit an onsen. Or maybe Fuji Five Lakes area.

The Grand Sumo tournament in Tokyo this month is from the 7th to 21st, but sounds like you will be too late for that.

Thanks again Mara and Mrwnrful! I will research both. I am leaning toward Kamakura, but have never considered Hakone. Regards,

Curt

Chichibu & Nagatoro are favourites of mine. Off the tourist trail & easy to access from Tokyo. Google Nagatoro for more info.

Onsen sounds great. Do you have a favorite in Hakone?
