Marke Ame, behind the Friendship store by the diplomatic compounds. Tibetan. It also has a show with no cover. Need to book.
We have been to Beijing twice and went both times.

We ate Beijing Duck at Quanjude in Wangfujing and liked it....an authentic experience. We also had Beijing Duck at Made in China at the Hyatt and absolutely loved it and the experience. Definitely worth a try.
We also ate at a few Italian Restaurants in Beijing. If you are interested the reviews are in my trip report from China.
Where are the beloved Panda's residing in Beijing?
Aloha!

Gpanda, it has been a while, but here a a few places we ate in Beijing:
Li Family Restaurant -- in the Hutong. Fun, good food. 11 Yangfang Hutong, De Nei Dajing, Xicheng District
Din Tai Fung -- a tad expensive, great steamed buns. It has opened branches elsewhere. 6/F Shin Kong Place, China Central Place, 87 Jianguo Liu in the Chaoyang District
Dadong Roast Duck Restaurant -- place is a bit touristy, but never mind -- excellent duck -- 1-2/F Nanxincang International Plaza, 22A Dongsi Shitiao, Dongchang District
China Club -- read a review of this place in Saveur magazine years ago. The food was just ok, but the something like 400-year old building was very cool -- former palace of a prince --felt like we were in a movie set. Supposedly this was Deng Xiao Ping's favorite restaurant. I think this sits on the edge of a garden in which we found a little teahouse where we were shown a traditional tea ceremony. Xi Rong Xian Lane near the Forbidden city and Tiananmen
Watch out for the student studying English/art student/tea house scams. They're everywhere.
Have a great trip! trav

Gpanda, we had an excellent Beijing duck at the Liqun Roast Duck Restaurant (pronounced "lee-joon", sort of) - not fancy but very busy, very popular with locals and expats, with testimonials from any number of celebrities wo've eaten there; English-speaking staff.
Address: 11 Beixiangfeng, Zhengyi Road, Qianmendong St Beijing 10051.
Tel: 6705 5578, 6702 5681.
It's located in a rat's nest of little streets SW of Tiananmen Square. You should order your duck (or ducks) when booking; best get your hotel staff to book for you, and also provide the cabbie with your destination.
(I can email you their business card if you're interested - drop me a line at [email protected])

Beijing Duck at Made in China at the Grand Hyatt.
It is voted BEST FOOD in Beijing and best Beijing Duck.
Tonight I can vouch for the duck as it was amazing. The skin with sugar dissolved in our mouths. Nothing like I had ever had before. A wonderful evening, a wonderful experience.
Make reservations as it is very, very popular,

Neil, I'll as dh and find out. It's worth the splurge.
BTW, our FaceBook is working in Beijing. We're at the Grand Hyatt and they have a proxy server here that we didn't have in Shanghai or Xi'an that is bypassing the block. I'm very happy for that!

We tried to eat at The Courtyard by the Forbidden City. However, closed as are others due to the upcoming October 1 holiday. This is information received from our concierge here in Beijing. On weekend nights, the main street, Chang'an Avenue, is closed at 6pm until early morning on weekends to allow parade practice for the 60th anniversary celebration on Oct. 1.
