Thanks JamesA. I shall try our luck at booking Blue Hill Resort or Haad Son Resort.

If you haven't settled on the overnight in Hua Hin ( though I think Thipurai is ideal for what you need ) and prefered a more beachy area instead of in the town center

http://www.huahinwhatson.com/hua_hin_hotels.html

They have beach places, anywhere down past the Hyatt is nice especialy 'around the corner' at the bay.

Booked Thipurai already because as you said, this is what we really need for an overnight stay. And we may as well stroll around the area around midnight and in the morning before we head off Chumphon.

Having said that, now that we are relieved that Huahin is only 2.5 hrs from BKK, we may come again in the not-too-distant future. Our last experience of the 4-hr journey really put us off a bit.

Just want to leave some marks about our trip and hotel stays.

Thipurai City in Huahin has wonderful location and good enough for transit. But the drains in our bathroom gave a really foul smell.

Tusita Haven Resort in Chumphon is quite remote. Nicely decorated but there were few clients during we stayed. We have the swimming pool, restaurants, etc. virtually for ourselves. Service was good, especially the manager who did everything he could to serve us. Understandably we couldn't have everything we want on the menus.

Koh Tao was lovely and spectacular. I even tried snorkelling (I couldn't swim) there. Charm Churee Resort was reasonably good. Our beachfront villa was interesting. Not luxurious style. More like an enhanced version of bungalow. Quite damp probably because of the daily rainstorm. Running a bath there was impossible with the water quality and heating available. Quite an experience in itself. When I returned and surfed the internet, I noticed that there are a few more goodlooking resorts like Jamahkiri Spa Resort at similar price level.

Haad Son Resort was a real disappointment. We went for the top room type at over 6000 bahts in low season (high season priced at 12xxx bahts!). The room was like a hugh Thai holiday home with balcony and shared jacuzzi pool (no other guests in that room type, so it's ours solely). Bulky bamboo furniture dominated. Scanty minibar items, a tiny shampoo/shower gel good for one time's use. Family/bungalow style service. At that price, we expected a heaven. We should go for their cheap a/c bungalows if we would ever stay there again... but obviously we WON'T stay there again.
