If Brad doesn't see this, I expect Carol will alert him. You should soon have an answer from an expert.

The only place I actually know is Roadhouse, which is a bar with a pool table. There are several pool halls in Bangkok, but I don't know which are good.

I'll get Brad's attention on this one, but I am currently "on the road" so it won't be right away, unless he has time to jump online tonight before he gets on the road as well ... we'll see.

Brunswick used to be his favorite place (soi 4). It closed a few years ago (too bad) but now he plays at Players and Ball In Hand. He'll name other places. There are lots of pool players in BKK. I used to play a game called "Killer" with some of the girls at Brunswick. It was fun. Even if I always lost!!! lol

So... Degas, are you a pool player?? You and Brad should play a game or two sometime when you are both in BKK!! We'll also be in HNL in September for the GTG. Brad plays regularly at a place, the name of which slips my mind.

Carol

Hi Carol

I'm starting to get back into it. Just for fun, about an hour or two max.

Here are a couple I found on another site:

Bully's Pub - Sukhumvit Road, Between Soi 2 & 4 , Next to the J.W. Marriott

Swan Bar - Soi4. Fiendly staff and lots of tables.

Gulliver's - Soi 5. If you like to challenge others to play; beware of the girls who play as they are very good!

I'm topping this thread so Brad will hopefully see it when he pops into fodors. I'm pretty sure Brad has played at Gulliver's. I think Hillary Bar would also be a fun place (soi 4) for you. A lively crowd, everyone is having a good time. Not as many tables as Swan Bar I don't think...

Forgot... if you are in the soi 4 neighborhood, you really need to stop by Annie's Pub (across from the entrance to the Raja Hotel) and meet Dr Jack, retired navy. Very interesting fellow. Tell him Brad and Carol said you should stop by!

Degas,
I know all of the places you've mentioned, and they know me.

Player's is the best place you've listed. It is behind Sukhumvit on a sub soi near Asok. Across the street and fairly close is Sports Academy (another good place) on the second floor above Therme Coffee Shop.

And Ball in Hand on soi 4 above the Tequila Pub (By Annie's) in the Raja Hotel complex. I was one of the original owners of the place.

The best lessons are from David Dennison at Fino on Sukhumvit 71 soi 27.

There's a good pool hall near Khaosan Road. It's in a bar opposite an Israeli restaurant round the corner from the Gulliver Travelers Tavern and I think it's called Gullivers 2. There's loads of pool tables in the basement, Hip Hop music and it was free last time I went.

Degas,
When will you be there? I'll be in Bangkok most of April and May, and I play pool every day.

I would be happy to give you a tour of the best pool rooms/bars.
