Bangkok/Chiang Mai accommodations

Hi! We will be visiting Thailand this summer and are trying to decide between a couple of different accommodations in each city. If you have an opinion and feedback, I would so appreciate hearing it.

BANGKOK:
Swiss Lodge (Silom area)
v.
Stable Lodge (Sukhumvit area)

CHIANG MAI:
Tamarind Village
v.
River View Lodge

I look forward to hearing from you!

i know swiss lodge and it is in a decent area near to many restaurants and not all that far from the skytrain...sukhumvit is a huge area...which soi is it on or near....anything up to soi 39 is pretty central...the skytrain goes right down the middle of sukhumvit by the way....many in the suk. area are not all that nice, although i do not know that particular one...

have you used www.huahin.20m.com to look at their hotel selection...you have to scroll down to bkk locations...

Tamarind Village is very popular so it can get full quite often. Novotel is not right in town but offers very good value for money. Rydges is also good value with what seems to be an ongoing pay for 2 nights and stay 3 nights deal which works out as about $45 double per night, and it should therefore be $90 for 3 nights which has to be an absolute bargain. If you have more than a few days in Chiang mai you might take a look at Jirong Health resort for a day, lots of spa stuff, not convenient for being inside town but if you want to mix and match busy Chiang Mai style with a restfull day and night break not too far away worth looking at, I have 'not' stayed at Jirung but a lot about it in local Thai magazines recently and seems to be something a little different.
For BKK what is your budget?

That deal for Rydges is on huahin.20m.com and also chiang-mai-hotels.itgo.com which both seem to get you into same system but different pics etc.

If you do a search you might find some negative comments on River View Lodge. You might want to consider Baan Orapin which has gotten some good reviews and which many of us are planning on trying in upcoming trips.

Stayed at the River View Lodge for a couple of nights in December. Very disappointing. The the rooms were grubby, the bar was a help yourself refridgerator and the inc. breakfast was mediocre. We were due to return after a trip around the Mae Hong Sorn Loop but decided to saty in a guest house just around the corner. (there is a great reatarant just along the Road - Charoen Bpratet Rd called just Khao Soi - well worth a visit.

In Bangkok, check out The Davis Bangkok on Sukumvit Soi 24. http://www.thedavisbangkok.com/
Very spacious rooms, good restaurant and bar.

In Ban
