Northern Thailand

We are planning a trip to Chiang Mai in May
and are thinking of staying in CM (Tamarind)and taking day trips to the Golden Triangle Elephant camps and so on
we are only there for 3 nights so would like
some advice on trips and if anyone has contacts of drivers/tour guides that we can book from CM would be very grateful. We are not trekkers so something gentle would be nice!

we used people in touch at [email protected] to arrange a driver and guide aroud the golden triangle border areas. very inexpensive and we had an awesome time. daeng (mr. daeng) was our guide. he spoke great english and was very informative. we made up our own itinerary based on research here and elsewhere, but they might have set choices too. daeng goes everywhere and had a lot of other suggestions for another time. ratt's sister drives in chiang mai. i don't have her e-mail, but ratt's is vimonrat kantapiyo at [email protected].

Ratt's sister's name is Poon and she is delightful and very accommodating. She is not a guide but she knows all the best places to go. Although her English is not great, we managed to communicate very well & had a lot of fun with her. Imagine her trying to explain to me that the odd shaped bone amulet I was looking at in the market was the skeleton of a tiger penis! "You know, tiger making love" she was saying. LOL.

We had a great time with Sergeant Kai of ChianrMaitours.com. Our guide was Nooy, who was wonderful. SK responds promptly to E-mail. He will customize tours if you have specific wants.
