Bangkok Air
has anyone had experience with this airline? Is it safe/reliable compared to Thai Air and western airlines?
We are considering taking it from Phuket to BKK and are also curious if the ride from Phuket pier (where speedboats from Phi Phi dock) to the airport is really 40mns..or if there is often traffic/back up. Thanks!

Flew them several times and was always treated well. On the stretch BKK-HKT I'd rather fly Thai (as they have many more flights a day) or one of the LCC (which are much cheaper). For your record, I am booked on Thai Business class BKK-HKT for 8.080 THB inclusive off all taxes next Jan. again

Bangkok Airlines is definitely one of the better ones around SE Asia. At most airports, they have their own departure areas with free flowing juice and light snacks.
They are expensive on their exclusive routes, but often cheaper than Thai on routes where they compete head-to-head.
As another response mentioned, when going to major tourist destinations, I usually go by Nok Air, a low cost airline with Thai as one of the owners. They use old Thai planes, which still have business class, which Nok sells as "Nok Plus". It costs 500 Baht more, but the total is still only half of economy on Thai.

i have flown bkk air both domestically and internationally and they are one of the more refreshing airlines around today....similar to southwest in the usa....nice lounge...they own some airports, like koh samui and koh chang...
they do cancel and change flights around however depending on weather and capacity....never all that much of a concern...
thai air of course has the premier service in thaland overall and is the most reliable...imo

flew the Krabi-BKK route and loved it. We flew Nok BKK-Phuket and it was a bit of a nightmare. If we didn't have our Thai friends there to help us budge our way into a completely disorganized line we would not have made our flight. You really get what you pay for.
