Bali - John Hardy & Snorkeling

I'd like to schedule a trip to tour the John Hardy workshop when I'm in Bali next month, but I can't seem to figure out where it is in relation to the rest of Bali. We will be staying in Ubud during the portion of the trip in which we plan to visit. Is the workshop accessible from Ubud?

Unrelated question - we want to go snorkling one day. We are spending half the trip in Ubud and half in Seminyak, neither of which would be good for snorkling, so we will probably take a day trip somewhere. Where would be a good place to go?

Thanks.

its on the outskirts of ubud....we took a driver there and had him return for us in a couple of hours....the tour usually includes a complimentary lunch...

its a fantastic take and they have some good discounts on specific items....

you get to go right into the workshops...

You should go ahead and email John Hardy and request what day you would like to visit. If you want to stay for lunch which I highly recommend, they only have 8 spots for visitors and these can be reserved early. They told us a few weeks ago when we were there that December was already completely booked.

Also, make sure you arrive on time, some of our group were not ready to go on time and we were late and missed touring the shop before lunch and had to wait and tour after lunch. It made for a very long day. Also, you can much more appreciate what you see in the showroom area after you've seen it being made.

It's only about 20 minutes outside of Ubud so not too far. it was one of the highlights of our trip and I definitely recommend it.

I would also suggest Prapen jewelry which I learned about from on here. Do a search for more info and the name of the town where it is located. The shop is right off the main road leading into Ubud.

Amicita, You can make a reservation to visit John Hardy on line:
http://www.johnhardy.com/visit.asp
If you don’t wish to join them for lunch specify when you reserve; otherwise they will expect it. I agree the tour is interesting, but you can skip the tour and still visit the showroom.

For snorkeling the best spots are the east coast or the north coast. I would recommend Menjangan Island off the northwest coast. You CAN get there in a day trip from Ubud or Seminyak but it makes for a long day. I haven’t made the trip myself but I would guess it would be about a 3 hour drive from Ubud, maybe 3.5 from Seminyak. Then you have to boat to the site. The East coast is closer but, I think, less accessible for snorkeling (vs SCUBA). Any of the Bali dive shops will arrange to pick you up at your hotel or you could ask your resort to set up a trip for you.

This website is good for information on Bali diving and snorkeling. Please note: I don’t have any personal experience with them and I’m not endorsing or recommending them. http://www.bidp-balidiving.com/

On the snorkeling question, what's it like around Lembongan Island? That's one day trip I haven't done yet.

rhkrmk I want to thank you for mentioning Prapen in your recent posts .We were there 2 weeks ago having located its address off a post on trip advisor report but our driver knew it anyway. A lovely building and we bought excellent gifts for a friends upcoming 40th and things for ourselves.Well priced and some unique pieces .
