Ayeyarwady River trip
Has anyone done the Mandalay-Bagan river trip recently? I did it 4 years ago and it was a simple ferry boat with Westerners on the top deck and locals below but it took about 12 hours - still a wonderful experience. I have friends going in December and they cannot seem to get good information on the current boat trips.

We did a similar trip in December '99. We went on the Road to Mandalay which is a converted Rhine cruiser. It is operated by the people who operate the Oriental Express. It was a great trip but not cheap.

There are other boats doing the Mandalay Pagan run, certainly a lot cheaper.

I have just been on a river trip in October. Have a look at the MS. PANDAW: it is lovely: http://www.pandaw.com/ It is an old Irrawaddy ship run by a Scottish company and the lady in charge is from Vancouver. it looks like an old ferry boat, but is redone. We were on it for 9 days. I would warmly recommend it.
