ATM Charges in Thailand & VN
I have always had used a bank that reimburses me for any out of network ATM charges. However, effective this month they will cap the amount that they reimburse per statement period. I wanted to try and get a sense of what ATM charges are like in Thailand & Vietnam. Do they assess a fee for using their ATMS? Also do they limit withdrawal amounts to a certain amt per day? Thanks

Banks in Thailnd generally charge 100 baht - about $3 per use. I always try to take out a large amount so I only have to make one or two withdrawals per trip. I haven't run into problems with withdrawal limits in Thailand. Last trip I took out 10,000 baht at a time. My bank reimburses me for ATM fees.
I'll let someone else tell you about VN. When I was there, there were limits on ATM withdrawls of about $100 each time, but I expect that has changed.

Most Thai banks charge a fee of 150 baht to use the machine. There is usually a 20,000 baht limit but some Machines give 30 notes so you can get 30,000 baht. Aeon ATMs do not charge the 150 baht fee but can be hard to find - in AEON/JUSCO markets, and sometimes freestanding machines in places like Tesco Lotus.

the 150 baht is a surcharge on all foreign cards using ATMs - on top of any fees or whatever that may be charged by your or any other bank etc.
I was not charged the other day when I went into the bank and used a foreign card to withdraw over the 20k ATM limit. (Your own bank and the ATM will have separate limit)s. I did of course still have to pay my own bank's fees.

If you want to save 150 baht then go to the Aeon website where they list all their ATMs. Anyone who has been to Bangkok a few times won't have any trouble locating one as many are located adjacent to major retailers like Tesco, Big C and Jusco. The exchange rate is as good as any other ATM in my experience.

One more thing - some Thai banks ATMs offer to charge your account in dollars instead of Baht. Don't accept this, as the conversion rate they use is almost always much worse than what your bank will use. On a 20,000 Baht withdrawal it can add up to another $4 - 5 in cost.
