Asia in August

Hi,

I am considering a trip to Asia in mid- to late-August. What are some destinations that you would recommend for this time of year?

Thank you.

I am sorry if I violated any rules by posting in both continents' forums. Both continents are under consideration so I thought I would get your opinions on each. Again, my apologies.

Asia is of course very hot in August. Somehwere at higher elevations, like Ladakh, Shimla or or Darjeeling In india, Borneo, or the highlands of Thailand or Vietnam might be nice.

Where are you coming from? If you live in florid, it might be easier to get to South America. From LA, Asia is simple.

While some destinations in SE Asia are hotter in August than at other times of year, and some will have rain, I would first ask what your interests would be. There is no point in going to the jungles of Borneo if looking at orang utans would bore you to tears. So a bit more information would be helpful.

Just to note, places like India will be in monsoon in many areas, and much of it will be uncomfortably hot compared to other times of year, so that is why the suggestion of the state of Ladakh has been given, as that is in the foothills of the Himalaya and is much cooler and does not have the monsoon. Places like Hong Kong are also hot and more prone to rain the summer, although for a city that does not make quite a much of a difference than to a beach location like the Philippines or Phuket, which has a lot of rain (and the former has typhoons in August, as does Hong Kong). On the other hand, most parts of Malaysia, especially the beaches of the islands of east Malaysia, are gorgeous in August. Bali is just about bone dry. Bali is one of those places, like Singapore and to a large extent coastal Malaysia, where the average temp rarely changes all year, it is the amount of rainfall which varies, so going in August can work well (assuming you want to avoid rainfall, things like temps being equal). See weatherbase.com and other weather websites to get an idea of temps and rainfall in various places you are consider.

You might also consider north Asia, like Japan. You have not mentioned China, which is also a possibility.

Also consider whether there are holidays or religious festivals in any particular country which you may want to see. I am not aware of any major ones in August (other than national day in Singpapore for which they are usually fireworks but I am not sure I would plan a trip around them), but check guidebooks or websites to see

Thank you. I posted here to look for ideas of possible places in Asia to visit in August given monsoons in parts of the content and typhoons in others. You have been helpful.
