Anyone heard of/stayed at these hotels in Ubud?
I need some hellp with accommodation in Ubud.
I was booked to stay at Villa Blanca in Ubud, but then I found a very bad review of the place.
So I'm now hesitating among:
1) Sunset Hill Villas and Spa
2) Santi Mandala Resort and Spa
3) Ulun Ubud
I don't mind the rooms of (1) and (2) but I know that (3)'s bathroom and rooms are only so-so.
(3) has gorgeous views though, and if anyone has stayed in these places, can you please let me know how they are?
My husband and I are paying for another couple so we have decided to stay at relatively budget places and splurge a villa in Seminyak at the end of our trip. Our budget for Ubus is below USD220 for 4.
We have already booked our villa in Seminyak.
This couple has never been to Bali and their last trip out of their country was 13 years ago. They have been saving for this trip to Singapore and Bali for the past 5 years. So we really want this trip to be perfect (if possible).....
Can anyone help???
We'd like a decent hotel and preferably with a lovely view of the valley/terraced rice fields. The rooms have to be air conditioned though.....
Many thanks in advance!

I suggest that you look at www.balidiscovery.com/.At US220 you ought to be able to find a very good hotel . It a website for a reliable balinese tourist agency which I have used and found fine .Look at their hotel sites under central Bali and it will pop up a big range in all price groups .You want a hotel sited above the Ayung River gorge . Some are Amandari ( luxe and lovely ) , Kupu Kupu Barong ( been there about 20 years )The Four Seasons is on another site but lovely .A friend stayed at the Bali Spirit last year and enjoyed it .If you would like to know more about Bali and places to eat etc just drop a note .Also see www.balieats.com .It is dinner time in Melbourne and so I shall sign off but will check tomorrow .

Hi PaulS!
Thanks for the info, but those hotels are way out of budget. We are looking at USD220 for 4 of us. If we can't get a nice villa, then we are willing to stay in a more budget place and the splurge on the villa in Seminyak.
Would love to know the good places to eat in Ubud as well...I only know of Bebek Bengil, Mosaic and Lamak. I heard that food at Mosaic is good, so will definitely go there... Any other recommendations?
Thanks

Just got back from Ubud. Used Asia Rooms who were very good for booking rooms at good prices. We stayed at the Alila which is less than the others which are outrageously priced. Only go for the superior rooms they are far better than the deluxe. Great views but not of the river and the most superb pool. Another hotel I looked at before I booked was the Komaneka which is in town and therefore you save on the taxis but they are very reasonable. Mosaic has fabulous food but book early as they are always booked. Restaurant is expensive especially by Balinese standards but food is superb. About 350,000 Rupiahs ahead without drinks. We ate at Casa Luna which was good but we did not like Dirty Duck. Cafe Wayan is also supposed to be good but we did not make it there. Have a great trip. We loved Ubud.

I loved Ubud too. stayed there in Dec at about US$100/night at Waka padma - www.wakapadma.com. Is a bit out of town but they ahve a free shuttle service. is right in the heart of the rice paddy fields. Rooms are small but a/ced and bathrooms gorgeous.

If I understand correctly, your budget is around $100 per room and you are getting 2 rooms.
Ulun Ubud...it really does have gorgeous views. I've stayed there, but it was 10 years ago. Looked at it this past Christmas and they have done a great job upgrading their faciliities. It's possible to walk into Ubud, but you'd probably choose to take a taxi or hotel shuttle.
You might want to look at the Tjampuhan Hotel, Bali Spirit, Komaneka (right in Ubud, very nice location, nice place), Alam Indah or Alam Jiwah, Kumara Sakti, and Kajane Mua.
Our choice in the Ubud area is Alam Sari...actually it's about 10 mintues out of town...for it's lovely views, fantastic staff, lovely rooms, and the many activities they can arrange for you - learn batik, play gamelon, carve wood, dance...you name it, they can teach you. Bike tour or trekking...no problem. Island tour...many options. Shopping with a guide to help you...no problem. And the price is right...very right.
