Very productive day today. Nice breakfast at anantara... Taxi to peninsula for their last Saturday of each month craft/market fair.. Quite small and held outdoors in the thai restaurant right on the river... Maybe 25 or so vendors... All very nice fair trade type stuff... We bought quite a few Xmas gifts.
From there a taxi to soi 11 sukhumvit where our jeweler is now located...WOW is that neighborhood becoming vertical-- new high rises everywhere.
K and porn designed a setting for a large stone which K has just inherited as well as a pair of earrings with new stones we purchased... Oh yes of course there is a chain too for the pendant to hang from.
From there we took a taxi back to the peninsula for our 1:30 res for dim sum.. Yummy as always but we missed the billT's with whom we last had dim sum there.
Finally a taxi back to anantara and our day out is complete.
Cocktails downstairs tonight in the club and maybe a little something after that... Like share a hamby and fries.
Tomorrow we probably will not leave the hotel.
I am missing our usual riverside area eats at Harmonique, tongue thai and himila cha cha but....

What...no Halloween party tonight??? Head over to Sukhumvit for costumes and partying.
No way I could spend a whole day in Bangkok hanging around my hotel! I'm not a swimmer or sunbather. Get me to a shopping mall...Platinum Fashion Mall comes to mind...and I'd be happy as pigs in mud.
When do the HT's join you?

We meet up with the HiTs on nov 23 in Hanoi --- can't wait. Our suite is so large and comfortable that we don' want or need to leave it--- full wrap around balconies with great river views, plus lots of Windows...
Platinum is on the radar for sure, but not till the end of the trip. We do need a rice bag for some storage however for left luggage while we are away from BKK.

Robert, the only thing better would be if you and Jill were here too.
So a lazy Sunday it has been. Great breakfast with tons of sushi, smoked salmon, fresh fresh pastry-- love the almond ones, fruits, cheeses and a delicious yougart with nuts and Granny Smith Apple slivers--- way too much but it's Sunday....
A couple of hours IN the pool--warm but refreshing water.
We shared a veggie pizza in the cafe outside of Brio restaurant with some ice cold waters. Yum.
Spent much of the PM in our cool rooms doing some internet and a nap.
Totally unproductive day, but a wonderful one!!!
After 5 we will have drinks in the club before heading out for our first thai dinner at Tongue Thai behind the Oriental---for sure at least one order of their cashew chicken--we have never found any better. Maybe some yellow curry too...

Although I've never eaten at Tongue Thai I'm sorry to read that your favorite place is no more.
Your suite sounds lovely. It's great getting upgrades! I wish DH's and my Paris suite had been bigger. We perhaps would have spent more relaxation time there instead of in the Tuileries Gardens.
When do you fly home? We are arriving in Bangkok on December 17, after spending 3 weeks in Switzerland and Germany just prior to that. Don't suppose you're still there?

Talk about a new "goal" on this trip - where is the newest and best cashew chicken to be found in BKK? I n all seriousness, Tongue Thai's was outstanding. Maybe they simply moved...?
This new search calls for some serious culinary investigation.

I will be renting at the Smith Residence in Chiang Mai Nov. 15-Feb. 15. Not sad to miss the snow on the US East Coast but I am certain, if my luck holds, that a snowstorm will await me as soon as I get back.
I am currently in Taiwan until I go to Chiang Mai staying with a hostess (not paying). I previously hosted her in my place outside DC. It is another trip that includes a mix of tourism and hanging out.
Would be glad to see any of you who happen to be in Chiang Mai.

Lauren, we leave CM on nov 10.
Today was a day for a huge breakfast, including at least one of Linda's chocolate croissants. A nap followed and I did not wake till noon. K was at the pool. I went swimming for about 30 minutes.
We shared a pasta eggplant dish for lunch at Brio. Quite good and just enough.
We hung out in the suite for a couple of hours and then took a taxi to Oriental Lane (soi 40, new Rd) to Lin Silver. K wanted a pair of silver earrings which she found there. They have a great stock of all things in sterling silver (92.5) at great prices. I got a silver pill box. K ended up getting another type of necklace to hang her new pendant on. A good shopping stop... We have been customers for a number of years.
K walked along new Rd to find a rice bag we will use to store stuff at Anantara until we return to bkk on dec 3. 70B
I walked next door to OP Place an upscale shopping venue. She returned quite quickly and we window shopped the shops on 2 floors---there are quite a few vacancies we noticed. In an hour there I think we only saw 1/2 dozen other shoppers.
We walked about a block and 1/2 to soi 34 new Rd to Harmonique for an early dinner: Sesame chicken, yellow crab curry, morning glory and garlic (yum), white rice washed down with Singha beer. We shared an order of mango and sticky rice for dessert. 1000B.
After hailing about 3 taxis one driver agreed to take us across the river to the Anantara. It was rush hour and we often have to hail 6-10 cabs before one will take you. 101 B. We may try Uber.
We returned in time for K to have a glass of wine and me a Minoau (sp) soft drink--ok so we had cake too.
Club privileges are very welcome in SEA as they go all out with service, food quality and drink (in Thailand wine is very expensive so wine drinkers quickly get their monies worth).
Another tiring day of sightseeing---btw the grand palace is still closed for power washing...
We leave the Anantara tomorrow, sadly, and move in town to the Hyatt Earwan for 2 nights (credit card bonus nights)... Crellston and his wife will join us for dinner. We look forward to that and to hearing about their latest SEA adventures.
