Lad please stop trolling this thread with your emotional and senseless comments. We get that you advocate eating street food and respect your choice. Why don't you respect this threads author's choices in the way in which they choose to travel? Do you dislike the author so much that you are trying to disrupt this thread and drive him away from finishing his report with your emotional outbursts? Your retorts seem very child like at best and really have no place on this forum.
If you feel so strongly that street food is your recommended way of eating while traveling may I suggest you start your own thread on the values of street food and give us your favorite stall locations and the type of food served with your opinion of same. That way you can really contribute something to this forum while refraining from your demeaning and negative comments about how others choose to spend their hard earned money traveling. Your comments are getting extremely tiresome and to be honest very childish IMHO.

There's nothing demeaning or tiesome about standing up for Street Food everytime it gets rubbished.
Once a thread is started it becomes a discussion. That's what a forum is,isn' it?!
For what it's worth I've stopped starting new threads as I know they'll quickly get highjacked with silly off-topic comments.

LL, this is a trip report. Street food does not care if you stand up and defend it. Insulting the author's choices is rude. Please let rhkkmk and HT tell THEIR story without trying to make it all about you.

The flight was uneventful, except that we again were taken to the plane in a special truck that lifted us right up to the rear door of the plane.
We did have our first service failure however, the van failed to come for us in Hanoi and the doorman quickly arranged alternative transportation to the airport for us, at 1/2 the cost.
The agency has accommodated us by offering three free van rides.... More than generous.
I have to offer a flash back on the JW Marriott, Hanoi. The hotel is superb in every way. The staff, the service in every department, the food, the hospitality, the fabulous huge club, the pool, the spa, the French restaurant, BUT as we had been warned the location, while fine for us, was a bit out of the way for most tourists who would prefer to be in old town. The Sofitel Metropole, which is centrally located, for sure offers old world elegance, is still considerably more expensive. I think Peter and Linda did it just right by staying in both places.
Arranging for transportation in advance and for a day at a time is very reasonable and well worth it. We paid Tonkin travel $47 for 8-9 hours for a large comfortable van and $27 for airport transfers.
The flt to Danang was 1 hour on an A321 Vietnam air plane--full. As cheap as $49.
Danang airport is not busy and we moved thru quickly to our waiting van. We were greeted upon exiting the baggage area.
The drive thru Danang was about 40 minutes to the Anantara. This is a lovely resort, riverside at the far end of downtown. There are two or three 2-3 story buildings with a large pool in the middle.
We had lunch after arrival in the open air restaurant, under a good fan. Btw, we are now back to hot and humid air.
Our rooms are perfectly adequate, but seem a bit doll house-ish after the huge suites in Hanoi. There are 3 steps up to the bedroom from the living room. The shower has no curtain-annoying, but the stall is large.
We walked into town in the late afternoon and went directly to Yaly, the tailors where all but karen are having things made....I think prices have increased quite a bit, although peter's shirts are only $45-- he bought quite a few and they bargained a bit. Linda is having a nice dress for $110. These are just sample prices for you.
I am having cotton drawstring cotton pants 4XL+ for $60.
W e wandered around a bit more, until I nearly dropped and ended up at The Secret Garden restaurant for our 7 res. No res necessary. Charming service, good food, but not as fabulous as I remember from a past trip.
They ordered rickshaws home for us, a God-send, IMO. Lovely ride thru town. We will do it again tonight after dinner at hotel, riverside... May do tasting menu.
Really nice breakfast in open 2nd floor breakfast room, included in our $175 room rate. Buffet.
Girls are now out checking out shops. P and I are hanging.
Light lunch today followed by a swim and then fittings about 3PM.
Evening rickshaw ride around town.
Tomorrow we move to the Hyatt resort on Danang beach... Club rooms

Once you start a thread, you do not control where it goes. This thread is a reason that I post my trip reports on my own site--where I can control insulting reports from flamers.
For the record, if you don't eat the street food in Asia, you miss some of the best experiences.

Too late for the OP, anyone in the Danang or Hoi An area on a Saturday or Sunday night can witness the Dragon on the 6-span Dragon Bridge over the River Han coming to life, spouting fire and water. The performance starts at 2100..
http://www.mnn.com/lifestyle/eco-tou...-a-double-take
It's very popular with locals and tourists alike. Best viewed from the promenade area on the west side of the river. Plenty of cafes along the promenade to soak up the atmosphere.
Every night all the bridges over the River Han are illuminated, and even if you might not be staying in Danang the promenade at night is a vibrant safe place to wander and have a drink.
The bridge is central and v.close to the Museum of Cham Sculpture

LK--- that may be true but in the 12+ years I have been contributing it has always been considered bad form to hi-jack a thread or to promote your website on some other person's thread, especially a trip report...
That is one of the reasons LL annoys so many people. He constantly adds things that are of no interest to anyone.... Most trolls disappear, but he just seems not to get it...

If I'd known you were arriving in Danang on a Sunday, then I'd have suggested the Dragon Bridge experience earlier in the thread.
Just because you never made it doesn't mean that it can't be mentioned in the thread, so that other people might enjoy it!

Bob-I was waiting to hear your take on the Secret Garden. When we were in Hoi An five years ago, we ate there. Although we enjoyed the pretty outdoor setting, we were unimpressed with the food. To me it was bland, and I am not one who likes spicy food. I am enjoying your TR, and am keeping up with your daily updates.

We all had steak tonight at our hotel, sitting riverside. This followed clothes fittings and a wonderful swim in their salt water pool.
After dinner we took a rickshaw (cyclo) into town for desserts at the Cargo Club, a great place on the Main Street. Good for American food too.
Unfortunately it started to rain while we were inside. They put tarps over us and we stayed dry for the ride home... 200,000 D each, about $9 for 1 hour

Acting like a child again won't give you any credibility but you already know that LL. All you want to do is disrupt and ruin a perfectly good thread but in reality all you keep doing is showing everyone how big an aSSembler of facts you are. Which of course is your privilege. I know you can't resist posting again so please at least give us something useful like tomorrow's weather report. Anxiously awaiting your next retort. Bet you will very soon. We know you have no self control. I'll bet you do it within 24 hours or less.
Very informative link AO lol. I thought that link would Pook my eyes out
