Airport Transfer - Hanoi
Hi,
What is the cost of an airport transfer in Hanoi? Our hotel is near the train station, and a travel agent is offering us the price of $20 per PERSON. That seems a little high ($60 total for three people).
Thanks
Kathy

The price we paid for a taxi (for 2) was $15 total. If you are arriving late and would feel more comfortable with transport already arranged, perhaps you could contact your hotel directly (since it sounds like the travel agent is really marking up the price). Hotel cars are more expensive, but should certainly be less than $60 for 3.

The offical flat rate from airport to Hanoi was 150,000 dong (or 10us) in 2005. It is possible 11 or 12 us for now. If you want to pay according to the meter you could pay a few dollars more. In Vietnam no extra charge for the number of passenger in the car. If you stay at a high end hotel you can ask for a pick up at the airport, at a probably 5 us cost.

Yes, $11 for the taxi, not pp, tho I was solo. I just walked out the front door of the airport and there were plenty of taxis. This was the late night arrival on United (after 10PM).
When I got to the Hilton I got out of the car and the door man was there. The driver came around and I started getting out the cash. As I was looking back into the cab and saw that the meter read 170,000 the doorman said the fare was 160,000 so that is what I paid.
To get back to the airport, I left from the Sofitel, not the Metropole, the other one. It is much closer to the airport. The meter was up over 200,000, maybe 240 thousand. I paid it but I also got every last dong of change.
