Airfare...yikes!

Hi all, I am just beginning to look into airfare for a summer trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. The best I see offered so far is $1247 for LAX to Hanoi, then Siem Reap to LAX. Does it get significantly cheaper that this? Also, any feedback on Korean Air? Thanks! Allison

rhkkmk and orgy7, thanks for your responses. Eva Air is closer to two thousand dollars now for this flight. The cheapest is Korean Air, however the connections aren't the best...like an 8 hour layover to Seoul! Since I've got a lot of time before we go, I think I'll wait and see if the other airlines go down in price. Allison

Yes, that's a good fare. I think what makes my fare so high is because it is an open jaw flight. LA to Hanoi, then Siem Reap back to LA. Allison

I think it really is the travel to/from Siem Reap that makes it expensive like orgy7 says, not the open-jaw really. I see fares in May of about $900 LAX-Hanoi and $345 for Hanoi-REP roundtrip. Waiting seems to be a good idea.

i'm trying to get from BKK to Hanoi in April, and the RT fares are high -- $450. Anyone have any ideas on where to find cheaper?
thanks

Check out www.saveflights.com for examples of fares. You may get cheaper in Khao San Rd, BKK paying cash. My mates paid US240 pp return in June 2004. Good luck.

AllisonL-the airfare from Saigon to SR is around US200 pp return on Vietnam airlines. Why not price a ticket LAX/Hanoi/Saigon/LAX and buy your Vietnam airlines ticket to SR, in Saigon. Check out www.vietnamstay.com for firm prices on Vietnam airlines. If not on their website you can email them for prices. We've found it's much cheaper to buy air tickets for travel from Vietnam IN Vietnam, rather than from home. Vietnam airlines office is right in the middle of Saigon near Rex hotel in Nguyen Hue.
