8 hours layover in Narita: what to do ?
We will be travelling this sunday through Narita, arriving at 11:30am and waiting for the 8pm flight. We have 2 kids aged 12 and 6. How could we fill this time at the airport or around ? I know the city is about 60 miles away !! Due to stand-by status we have anyhow to make the passport entry procedure, pick up the luggage and check-in again later on.....

Boso no Mura in Narita town is a fun diversion. Take a taxi there, as it requires 2 buses which is inconvenient and with 4 of you a taxi won't be that much more money. There are hands on experiences that we really enjoyed...candle making, printing on fabric, cooking...you just go there and sign up at the house area. When you buy tickets, they will help you figure out their system. Eat before you go, as there isn't really any lunch food there that we could find. http://www.city.narita.chiba.jp/engl...boso_mura.html

Doubtful. I haven't seen anything like there anywhere in Japan outside the international community. The Narita City website in English is pretty good, you might have a look to see if there is something that interests you. http://www.city.narita.chiba.jp/english/index.html

If you like sushi, there is a nice little restaurant on the main street that goes thru town. It's called Eddoko Sushi but is only written in Japanese. It is next to the Barge Inn (written in English) and is a very small storefront but has the traditional cloth banners hanging in front.

Hi Fabio,
I really enjoyed the Narita-san temple in Narita Town. It is much closer to the airport than Tokyo and it is easy to get to from the airport.
The Narita-san temple is beautiful with spacious grounds. Right behind the temple, there is a beautiful garden. However, this time of the year may be cold. There are interesting shops along the street leading to the temple.
Mike Newman's page is great, and that was what I used for my 12 hour layover in Narita.

thanks a lot for all your suggestions !! It is now less than 48 hours to leave home. I think the local weather on sunday will make the difference of goin to Narita town as suggested rather than staying at the airport !! Hope that at least it will not rain !!
