I'm obviously in the minority, but I'd go into the city for a meal or a massage or something. Especially if you can take the train. I suppose it's different from the depths of Sukhumvit, but to/from the river at different times of the day and different days of the week, it's never taken me more than 30 minutes. Certainly you'd ned to allow extra time, just in case, but I think a trip into town in doable.
It's also never taken me more than 5 minutes to go through passport control before heading to the Lounge. But then, I'm either flying out very early in the morning or taking Thai Biz class to somewhere else in Asia, so have the priority line.
