4 hour Hong Kong layover

is there enough time to take a taxi to see the city on a 4 hour layover, or should i not risk not getting back for my flight out and just stay at the airport?

As I recall the airport is not too close. Four hrs. isn't much at all. I don't know if there is anything close to the airport but if it was me I would not consider it.

Even taking the Airport Express from Kowloon or Hong Kong Island, travel time to Lantau Island where the airport is will take quite some time, plus you have to go through immigration for both your flights. You could not do more than wander for an hour - I wouldn't risk it.

Another thought - I would spend more time in Arrivals than Departures, which is not so nice unless you want a Cartier watch or something of that ilk.

You are transiting, so you'll go directly to departures level after going through security only. And not through immigration.
