yes, its ok if you have the code. Most hotels and ryokan I have been to didn't even run the cc at check in and I did not need it for the reservation. The international chains will require a cc as their standard procedure however....

I've had the same experience - most hotels don't ask for a cc number. A small ryokan did once and when I canceled I made sure I got a confirmation from them.
