"Thus wondering, if anyone else has ever written such a letter and received some sort of response or do they not care what passengers tell them."

Two years ago, we were flying American Airlines from Buenos Aires to JFK in first class. The FAs cut corners on service in four instances which I pointed out in a succinct, 1-page letter. Now, if this had been coach, I wouldn't have bothered. But, it was international first class and I expected a lot better.

Rather than simply send the letter to "customer service", I went on Flyer talk to get the name and title of someone in corporate headquarters who cared and had the power to help me. I was given the name of a senior VP and advised to send it to him, copied to two subordinate VPs.

Several weeks later, I received a phone call at home from the corporate offices apologizing for the mishaps and offering my wife and me, 25K miles (each) as a peace offering.

I considered this a fair settlement. The lesson I learned was that it matters to whom one complains.

I've never bothered to whine to the airline about any problems. I just chalked up my last business class flight a month ago to bad luck when there was a problem with the seat reclining.
