Using AA FF miles for a hotel room.

I have never used FF miles for anything but airline tickets. I have 37K + miles on AA from Citibank Mastercard. I was thinking of using the miles for hotel room. I tried looking on AA.com and then marriott.com for how to use the miles but got bogged down. It seems like you have to order the award certificates first and then try and get reservations?? I think I must be missing something.

Can anyone help me figure out how to turn my miles into hotel nights?

Thanks,
Debi

I can't tell you about AA>Marriott transfer but AA>Hilton transfer is possible at 1>2 ratio. The exchange has to be at 5K miles increments. , with 1 time fee of $25 for the total transfer.

Great site, but I am still confused about which comes first - convert the miles to award and THEN try to make reservations or reservations first? Also, do the have blackout dates when these converted miles cannot be used?

Sorry for being slow about this, I am just not getting it.

Debi,

I'm not so sure you can convert AA miles to Marriott points. I tried looking at both sites and I didn't see anything. Can you post a link to the conversion page?

It took me awhile to find it but the instructions say to make your reservations first then order your award:

http://tinyurl.com/35jzur

It comes as a paper cert, you can transfer into Marriott Rewards.

I still haven't found the page where it tells you how many miles it takes for which award.

Sorry, that's "you can't transfer into Marriott Rewards", at least not directly that I could see.
