Southwest Airlines - check-in question

Hi, All,
6 of us = 3 couples are taking the same flight, and we have one reservation for 6 people. All 3 couples are coming to the same airport from different cities, all 3 from homes (from San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley - OAK airport)

As the flight is early, time will be limited... I can check in all 6 of us 24 hrs in advance - I have the name and the reservation code, I am not the one who made the reservation - will SW allow me to check all of us in?

How about boarding passes? Do I have to print them all? Can I print only 2 for me (and hubby) ? Can they print them after I check them in? Do I need to know in advance how many pieces of luggage for each one?

I'm pretty sure you can check in all 6 people as long as you have the confirmation number and the person's name who booked the ticket. Same goes for your traveling friends. You can do the check-in 24 hours for everyone but each person can print their own boarding pass either at home or wait until you get to the airport.

I have checked in people on the web for SWA with just their name and confirmation #. No problems. I also had someone check me in one time and picked up my boarding pass from a kisok at the airport.

Hi Dayenu, I checked in some Fodorite friends when they were flying home from CA via Southwest. It worked fine. I set my kitchen timer so that I would check them in exactly 24 hours in advance so that they could get the A tickets. And of course they were able to pick up their boarding passes at the kisok when they arrived at the airport.

Just to reaffirm what others have said -

You can check in all 6. When the reservation is pulled up, there will be a box by each name - click just the ones you want or all 6. You can then print any or all of the boarding passes. Even if you elect to print all 6, they can reprint them at the kiosk at checkin if they want - ie, you or anyone with the reservation # can print the passes a dozen times if you wanted to.

And yes, unless you elect to pay for the $10 early checkin feature, check in at exactly 24 hrs to maximize your chances of getting an "A" boarding slot.

Thank you, DFR (and LI), I was not sure if we can print our own boarding passes.

This morning I checked in. One can mark off all 6 or any of them for checking in. I checked all 6.

There was no question of luggage - I think before they asked if I have luggage or not - or was it in the airport?

There is no option of marking off only 2 passes out of 6. When clicked on "print" I picked out pages 1 through 2 for myself only.

At work, checked in to see what happened - yes, the kids will be able to print their own passes, the check in numbers are the same.

And checked in exactly 24 hours in advance - got the last 6 in group A. People are really paying $10 to get better seats!! Or maybe it's about overhead space...
