Ryan Air, Easy Jet??? Any advice

Hi All,

Our family of 5 is flying from US to Europe (Barcelona, or Madrid frist - have not bought the tickets). Anyway, we are planning to fly to Tenerife Isalnds from Madrid or Barcelona depending upon where we get the good deal for 5 airfares. I checked the airlines website and I am not sure what is the baggage policy for flting within Spain. I understand that each one of us will get one small carry-on but if we have a checked luggage, how much are the charges? I could not find an email to write to them and they do not have any USA phone numbers. Anyone can tell me what they charge within Spain for checked baggage (it has ** and says excludes Spain in their policy).

Thanks

So far as I can see, EasyJet flies Madrid to Lanzarote, but not Tenerife. Anyway, if you start a booking with EasyJet for that route, it says that you can pay 14 Euros per bag, and that your *combined* allowed weight for your checked luggage is 20 kg.

If you do the same thing with Ryanair, using Madrid and Tenerife South airports, you see that you will be charged 15 Euros per bag, and the combined weight of all your bags must be no more than 15 kg.

The important thing is to make sure your carryon is under the allowed limit (don't even think of fudging this), so you aren't forced to check it.

"I understand that each one of us will get one small carry-on"

The "small carry-on" Easyjet allows is the full 56x45x25cm that "grown up" airlines allow - but Easyjet don't put any restriction on weight.

Have flown both a lot not your particular routes.

EasyJet a little better with bags both nickel and dime

you to death with extra charges.

Usually carry on no more than 10 KG for both

works well for me that way no extra charges.

RyanAir frequently weighs my bags charges a lot for overage.

Easyjet counts laptops as carryon and charges fines.

So they get you every way they can...

Still save boatloads of money with them booking in advance.

"Usually carry on no more than 10 KG for both"

As I said earlier Easyjet has no weight limit on hand luggage

"Easyjet counts laptops as carryon and charges fines."

Easyjet, Ryanair and virtually every other low costs airline in Europe allows ONE PIECE OF HAND LUGGAGE. Not one piece plus a purse plus a laptop plus a Meal Deal from Boots plus your airside bought booze...

... if your ONE PIECE OF HAND LUGGAGE is a laptop then Easyjet don't care that it's a laptop.

Thanks to all of you experience traveler and I also checked the webpage that "qwovadis" pointed. I am also experiencing that there is a vast difference in advertised price and the total money that you pay for flying. No matter how light I want to travel, we will have some luggage for 3 week journey to Europe with kids and I need to look at the cost of the luggage Vs. money/time in laundry there.
I still have some time to shop around -- will check the budget airlines within Europe. Thanks a lot to everyone who replied.
