On a flight early this week from Xi'an to Shanghai on a China Air Boeing 777, the usual video drivel was interupted the last 3 minutes of the flight. A camera mounted at a 45 degree forward angle showed the ground approach. Then, 30 seconds before landing, the gear came down, another camera directed forward horizontal, mounted on the nose gear, switched on, and remained on until we nearly reached the terminal.

Has anybody seen these real time in-flight movies anyplace else?

Egyptair had similar cameras on 777 we flew JFK to/from Cairo. Camera also was on for approach/departure from city so you could see landscape and buildings. My family loved it, but it gave me the creeps to see the ground approaching.

I had that on a takeoff and landing on a CrossAir flight. It was freaky to watch, but interesting at the same time!

I think American Airlines had that feature (on the tarmac) about 20 years ago. It was pulled after it showed one of the machanics scratching his behind.

Technically it's not a "movie" at all, but rather a live camera showing you what is happening. I've seen this before (on Asian flights, I think) and always thought it was kind of a nifty thing to do. If it bothers you, you don't have to watch.

I wish US flights had the "log" channel that so many other airlines have, where you can see altitude, hours left in the flight, time at destination, and position of the plane on a map.
