Mini gel packs allowed?
I am trying to figure out how I can carry some cold snacks on a long overseas flight. Most airline foods, even the "special orders" contain sugar. I want to carry some sliced cheese, cold vegetables, pepperoni slices and roasted nuts. (Not a lot....no more than a 1 qt container)
I've seen these "ice cube" frozen gel products (less than 3 oz). I would put the cubes in my 1 qt bag for security screening. Then move them to container with the food.
Question: I would like to take 4 or 5 of these cubes. Is the 3 oz limit a total, or can one take more than that as long as no single item exceeds 3 oz?

Jeanne, the things you list are classic hiker foods that travel safely all day in a backpack without ice. Also, their flavors are better at room temp than chilled. I would not worry about spoilage unless I did not expect to consume them within 12 hours or so.
