Leaving LHR for several hours

On April 14th my wife & I arrive at LHR at 10:00 am, coming from IAD. We leave for BKK at 10:00 pm. I assume we arrive and leave from T4. My question is how hard/long will it take for us to clear customs and catch the express train to London? Also, will it be difficult returning to the airport, not getting there, but having to go through customs again? We are traveling First on all flights if that matters.

Thanks,
Mike

Customs takes no time at all unless you are stopped.

Getting thru immigration can be time consuming for non EU passport holders, I'd say half an hour to an hour. There's no difficulty in returning to T4 but there might be lines to get thru security although being in First means you can use Fastrack.

If the flight is UA (arrival 10:00am), the arrival will be T3, BA arrives 10:05 will be T4.

Pulley: To find all your threads, click on your name. This question is asked several times a week over on the Europe forum. You'll also get lots more info if you search or post a thread over there.

Excuse my memory lapse, I'm sorry for "double posting". Janisj, do you think I should post on the Europe board? AAfrequent Flyer gave me plenty info. I guess it would all be duplicate. Gardyloo, I post at flyer talk as well so that's probably a duplicate post as well.

No - you really don't need to post over on Europe. But it is a MUCH busier forum and you may get lots of ideas you hadn't thought of. BTW - the Express train may not be your best option since it only gets you to Paddington Station which is quite far from most any tourist sites. The tube may be slower, but it gets you to the middle of the "action" faster.
