Found a decent price for June trip to Italy: Lufthansa Airlines
PHL-FRA-FCO (connecting flight Frankfurt to Munich). Can someone out there tell me if the connections are easy enough? We have a 3y/o and 10 y/o children. Also, when departing from PHL, do our luggages go directly to FCO? Thank you for any assistance on this.

I am in the process of looking for resonable rates to Venice, Italy for May or June. Where is FCO? I live in Michigan and can't find anything under $1,000, which my friend and I can't afford. My travel agent can't seem to do any better. I'm wiling to drive a reasonable distance to catch a flight.

Hi Petite-
I haven't flown that specific route, but I've flown couple of times on Lufthansa PHL-FRA and then connect on to other places. I didn't enjoy it at all as I find Frankfurt airport confusing and the flight arrives so early at the airport I always have trouble finding agents who can help.
Several months ago I flew to FRA and connect to Berlin on a Lufthansa E-ticket. In PHL, the agent somehow only checked me in for the PHL-FRA flight, saying that it was too early for her to check me in for the Berlin flight, and I will just have to get my Berlin boarding pass when I get to FRA. In FRA, I ended up waiting in line forever, then when it was my turn, the agent didn't even know how to pull up an E-ticket reservation! She made me wait in a different line, and the whole process took over an hour (after a long transatlantic flight), and I almost missed my connection.
It would be easier if you fly USAirways direct to FCO. But if Lufthansa is a lot cheaper, make sure you have at least 2hr layover in FRA or you'll run the chance of missing your connecting flight. And yes, your luggages do go directly to FCO.
Snookss- FCO is the airport outside of Rome.

I have flown Philly to FRA to connect to other destinations. FRA is big, but easy to navigate-good signs etc... They are very secure, and it took tons of time to get through-even to just connect. Your luggage should go to your final destination. Oh-I have also done it with kids-long and exhausting. I am looking for non-stops from now on!
If you are looking for good deals to Italy and don't mind the inconvenience one thing to try is fly to your best priced destination (say, London) and take one of the local carriers (say, Ryanair). You have to switch airports usually, but if you have more time than money its cheaper. You can even find a better price sometimes if you book both legs on major carriers, just buy them seperate. Italy in May or June is going to be pricey. Make sure you leave before May 27 for the better rates. Earlier than that is even better-really. FCO is Fiomucino (did I spell that right?) and the other airport in Rome is Ciampino.
