I'm looking at a Lufthansa flight Seattle to Tallinn with a change in Frankfurt. I have not connected through Frankfurt for a long time, and I'm wondering if there will be enough time clearing customs/immigration to catch our flight. I assume we will have to clear customs and immigration in Frankfurt. We will have only carry-on luggage. The alternative would be a three hour layover.

() minutes would make me nervous, but if you are traveling on a single itinerary then it might be worth the risk. When we landed in FRA a couple weeks ago it was pretty smooth but did take a bit off time to walk from gate to immigration/customs and for checked bags to arrive. I'd go for the three hour connection, myself.

Problem is that it is a loooong flight from SEA for an old codger like me, and I really would like to get on to Tallinn so I can start to wallow in self pity over my jet lag. (Not a pretty thing, according to my Wife!)

90 minutes is more than enough time. You'll have a quick passport check in Frankfurt, but customs is in Estonia. Baggage is irrelevant -- your bags will be checked through to Tallinn.

With no checked bags that works, depending on the airline. If you're going all the way on Lufthansa, then I definitely think you'll be ok. I've done that connection several times in that amount of time, though summers are busy at Frankfurt.

Any chance you can connect through Munich? It's a much smaller and more user-friendly airport, and while you often have to take an airside bus out to the tarmac to board, 90 minutes would be more than enough time there.
