Is $500 an ok price for non-stop fare PHL-San Francisco?

Thanks, Betsy. Problem is-- we need that non-stop U.S. Airways flight that leaves Phila. around mid-day; other flights just don't work for us. I do check almost daily-- thanks very much for the website. No doubt we'll just have to pay for the convenience of having the times we need/want. (Not that flying these days is ever "convenient"!)

"why in the world would one imagine that fares would go down given the fact that fuel, etc is going up?"
Quite simply because changes in air fares are driven as much by supply vs demand as they are by oil prices.
As far as USAir is concerned June is too far away to react, either by raising or lowering prices. Their business model likely says something like this: "why lower prices for June now - it's too early for most people to book. Is someone wants to book for $300 each way, great. Let them. We'll watch supply vs demand and if there is unsold inventory as time gets closer we'll lower the price. It's just too early for us to react now."
The same itinerary for May is $149 each way. Same fuel price. Same plane. Same distance. If I check available seats for the June 20 2pm PHL-SFO flight I see 2/3 of the seats open. Way too early for the airline to reduce fares to try to sell seats.

Good post J62. I would contend S/D isn't just as much as oil prices it is more important.
A couple of points looking at the seating map an airline's website can come back to bite you. That being said both of the flights in question look WIDE open.
Also with the $149 price... The further you get towards summer the more chance there will be a slightly higher fare. I would expect that this flight could be had easily for under $400 round trip at some point between now and May.

Caesars and the Forum Shops are not connected to the Mirage. You have to go outside and walk on the sidewalk. It is only a few feet from the Forum Shops to the Mirage.
There is a crosswalk near the Forum Shops across LV Blvd to the IP. It is very busy and quite safe. There is a pedestrian bridge at the other end of Caesars that goes across to the NE corner of LV Blvd and Flamingo Road. I'd use that to go across the road to the Flamingo to catch the monorail there for the Hilton.

Poss,
Hopefully you are still checking in. I have been watching this for you periodically. With 965 out like you wanted and 728 back (it leaves 2 and a half hours later than 658 that you had wanted) you can get this for $364 round trip. If you are still interested BUY NOW!

MrNuke: Thanks very much for the alert. In fact, we finally scrapped the plans for the June trip, but we're hoping to make it out that way either later in the summer or, if not, then next June. I so very much appreciate the various kinds of advice and aid people have offered me; it will come in handy for future trips. Thank you kindly. And happy travels to all.
