Snoring happens. When loud and persistent, most people around the person may exchange glances or smile, but that is about the extent of the response.

One of the excuses my sister used for why she doesn't travel such as overnight flights to Europe is that she doesn't want to fall asleep and snore, drool, or slump onto the neighboring passenger. She is more worried about what other people will think about her rather than their inconvenience.

I tell her that we are all in the situation, trying to rest in cramped quarters among strangers. Just prepare yourself as best you can to sleep. If it makes you feel better, tell your neighbors in advance that you are known to snore and to not hesitate to give you a nudge if you do so.

I travel solo a lot and try to snag aisle seats on long flights. I try to remember to tell those in the center seats to be sure to nudge me and tell me when they need to get up. Otherwise I will be zoned out with my headphones and eye mask, snoring away while they are stuck in their seats. I think once a young lady may even have lightly touched my arm repeatedly on a long US-Asia flight, but in my relaxed state I thought it was just accidental brushing against me. Since then I try to react more to even subtle touches by my neighbors to raise my mask and check if they are trying to get out or stop my snoring.

The only, and I mean the ONLY, thing I feel is jealousy... that some people can actually sleep on a plane!
