Yay! I'm booked to fly a 777 for the first time in April. Very excited. Have never flown this aircraft before.

Alas, I'm in coach, as always, and sitting in seat 38G.

It's American Airlines. Can I expect seat back entertainment?

Only a 2.5 or 3 hr flight between Chicago and Dallas, but fun nonetheless!

Actually the business class seats are sold as coach (and can be preselected by AA elites); if you spend the 15K miles to upgrade, you get to ride in the international first class section, typically the Flagship Suites (reeealllly nice) although it might be the Pacific configuration FC &quot;coffins.&quot; Either way it's a fun way to spend a couple of hours.

Since it is a coach flight, you probably will get lots of commercials. AA has cut down on entertainment.

If you want to fly on a really big jet, fly from Vancouver to San Francisco this summer on a 747. Qantas serves free lunch or dinner on the 2-hour flight, too, and the price is right at between $150-$200 each way. Free wine with the meal in coach and the entertainment will probably include the movie &quot;Snakes on a Plane&quot; and &quot;World Trade Center.&quot; The flight is three times a week, I believe Wed., Fri., and Sun.

It's the same IFE as on intercontinental segments - 5 or 6 movies, cartoons, etc.

Until Qantas flies between DFW and ORD, this will be the OP's best choice on that route.

Instead of using miles could OP upgrade another way? Purchase 500-mile upgrade certs? Would AA possibly offer a paid upgrade at check-in? Online? If so, what is the ballpark cost maybe $100?

I share your excitement in flying a triple-7 in coach for the first time, hope you enjoy it. Upgrade, if it makes sense for you.

i wouldn't choose to upgrade for this flight. only 2.5 hours, and aside from that, our FF miles are taking us to europe this fall!! gotta save 'em for that.

all other things aside, i'm not a great flyer anyway and take vallium to control myself, which usually puts me to sleep i'll definitely report back on my experience!

I flew first class, first row no less, on a 1-hour flight from Bangkok to Phuket on a Thai Airways 747. It had come in from Hong Kong, stopped in BKK on its way to the island. I had upgraded to what I thought would be Royal Exec class, or something like that, and it was in first class, row 1. Now, mind you, it wasn't those fancy lay-down cubbie seats. But sitting in the &quot;nose&quot; of the plane was a first for me.
